An open-bus tour will take place today to welcome Olympic bronze medal winner Jenny Jones back to Bristol.

Thousands are expected to line the streets of the city to cheer home Jones, the first Briton to win a medal on snow at the winter Olympics in 90 years.

Jones, 33, who won bronze in the snowboard slopestyle event at Sochi, will visit pupils and staff at Hambrook Primary School from 2pm. She will then move onto Downend School.

An open-bus tour will take Jones from her childhood home in Downend, through the streets where she grew up and into Bristol city centre.

The bus is expected to arrive at Bristol's City Hall at 5pm, when a civic reception will be held in Jones' honour.

A spokeswoman for Bristol City Council said: "The bus tour is part of the region's celebrations marking her Sochi Olympic success and will culminate in a civic reception at City Hall.

"Before boarding the tour bus there will be a presentation to Jenny Jones by councillors from Downend Parish Council.

"Bristol's Lord Mayor, Councillor Faruk Choudhury will host the civic reception in Jenny Jones' honour and will welcome chairs and council leaders from Bristol's neighbouring authorities.

"There will be a special gift presentation to Jenny Jones by Bristol's Lord Mayor, followed by a welcome home speech by chair of South Gloucestershire Council, Councillor Ian Boulton. Jenny Jones will then be invited to make a short speech."
