Sam Claflin has said despite his new film The Quiet Ones being a horror movie, he found it difficult to get very scared on set.

The Hunger Games actor stars in the film about a university professor who assembles a team to try to create a poltergeist with horrifying results, but said that the cast were more likely to be laughing than screaming on set.

He said: "Despite being one of the scariest buildings I've ever been in, we very rarely shot at night so it was a safe environment.

"It was just tough having to look at all the other guys' scared faces all day, every day. Once you start getting familiar, you start pointing out the flaws and then every time you turn around and catch someone else's eye when they're pulling a face, you're trying not to laugh for a lot of it.

"We also had the director vocalising a lot of the sound effects, so that in itself was quite hilarious."

He explained: "Without the music and sound effects which in the final cut make the film, it's tough to realise how things are going to work, but I think it works fantastically well."

Sam also admitted he could be converted to a belief in the paranormal.

He said: "I don't not believe, but I don't believe - I could probably be swayed by one little paranormal experience with supernatural beings.

"I've heard stories from friends and family who've been through those sorts of experiences and could not sleep and still are heavy believers and I think if I had something like that to abide by, I'd be a huge believer."

The Quiet Ones in released in cinemas on April 10.
