JJ Abrams has told how a fan who found his wallet held him to ransom until he revealed what happened at the end of TV show Lost.
The TV and filmmaker - who is set to direct the new Star Wars movie - revealed how the policewoman who found his lost wallet turned out to be a huge fan of his hit show about a group of plane crash survivors stranded on an island, and was desperate to know what happened.
JJ explained: ""It was a really funny, crazy story where this one policewoman, rather diminutive, found my wallet and held it ransom until I would tell her what the end of Lost was.
"But despite that she was incredibly sweet and the woman who found it didn't have to turn it in, but she did. It was very hard to give her the money from it."
The American director attended the UK premiere of new movie A New York Winter's Tale starring Colin Farrell in London, to support Irish film.
JJ, who hosts the US-Ireland Alliance's annual Oscar Wilde: Honouring the Irish in Film with his production company Bad Robot, paid tribute to the kindness of Irish people.
He said: "The people of Ireland have proved themselves to be the most extraordinary kind and compassionate people I have ever met. My wife, who is Irish-Catholic herself, she comes from a wonderful people.
"I was honoured to receive an honorary Irishman award, so I feel I'm one of them. Plus no one has more fun than the Irish."
