DeHaan: Spider-Man full of youth
Dane DeHaan has revealed he had a blast working on The Amazing Spider-Man 2 because the project is driven by youthfulness.
The 28-year-old Kill Your Darlings actor stars alongside Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone as Peter Parker's friend Harry Osborn - destined to become villain The Green Goblin - in the follow-up to Marc Webb's reboot of the classic comic book tale.
Dane revealed: "It was a great role. You have young cast, and you have a young director so sometimes you just forget you're making a Spider-Man movie. Because you're hanging out with your peers and the you look around and think 'Oh my gosh, we're not just making an independent movie, we're making Spider-Man!'
"It's always great to work with your peers. And in a situation like that when you're working with actors you respect and you have a director who keeps thing cool and keeps things moving and keeps people happy, it was a very positive experience."
Marc Webb's Amazing Spider-Man reboot set the story back in high school. Dane revealed he thinks the character of Spider-Man has always been suited to a younger audience.
He said: "Spider-Man has always been a very easy to relate to universally. He is a young person and he has young people problems. Then he gets this gift and these powers, and he has to decide what to do with them, and he chooses to help people.
"But at the same time he's still dealing with young people's issues and relationships and friendships. There's a very human element to all the things these characters go through, that tie in to all the things that are going on supernaturally, in a very believable way."
