Keeley Hawes has revealed she is "thrilled" to be joining TV drama Line Of Duty.

The former Spooks star is to play DI Lindsay Denton, while Call The Midwife actress Jessica Raine - best known as midwife Jenny Lee in the BBC 1950s-era show - will play newly appointed Detective Constable Georgia Trotman in the BBC crime drama.

Keeley admitted she "loved" the first series and said: "I'm thrilled to be joining the cast and after reading Jed Mercurio's incredible scripts, I can't wait to take my character on the epic journey he has created for her."

The pair will star alongside familiar faces from the first series such as Vicky McClure, Adrian Dunbar, Martin Compston and Robert Lindsay, when the second series begins filming in Belfast in coming weeks.

In the opening episode of the upcoming six-episode run, Jessica's alter-ego DC Trotman must help solve a complex case which begins when three police officers are killed and a protected witness is seriously injured. Keeley's character DI Denton is the only survivor of the incident, and it doesn't take long before she becomes the prime suspect in the case.

The show's writer and executive producer Jed said: "I was thrilled by the success of series one, and I'm hugely grateful for the opportunity to create another six hours of twists and turns as our returning investigators delve into a brand-new story of police corruption."

The first series was BBC Two's most-watched, new drama series of the last decade, averaging 4.2 million viewers across the five episodes.
