Nicole Kidman has admitted it took her "a very long time to heal" after her split from Tom Cruise.

The Paperboy actress revealed that she was totally in love with the Hollywood megastar, who she married in 1990, and that she struggled to get over it when they broke up after 10 years together.

She told DuJour magazine: "I fell madly, passionately in love. I was reeling with Tom. I would have gone to the ends of the earth for him."

Nicole, 45, revealed that shortly before the couple split she believed "our life together was perfect".

"It took me a very long time to heal," added the actress. "It was a shock to my system."

The star is now happily married to country singer Keith Urban and the couple have two daughters, four-year-old Sunday Rose and Faith, who is nearly two.

Nicole revealed having a baby "healed" her in some ways.

She said: "It took me so long to have a child. I feel enormous gratitude. Sunday has healed an enormous amount in me. It's a very private thing, but she just has."

Tom went on to marry former Dawson's Creek actress Katie Holmes but the couple split this year after nearly five years of marriage.
