The Balearic Islands have been favoured by British holiday makers for decades with spending their summer holidays on these atmospheric Spanish lands year after year.
The short flight times are perfect for families with young children or those that can only get away for a couple of days, with the islands all being less than a three hour journey. Balearic Island holidays offer a warm climate throughout the summer months that reaches 28 degrees in August you are sure to come away with a golden tan.
Each of the three Balearics, Majorca, Menorca and Ibiza, have their own personality but still retain the Spanish ambiance. Each island has a selection of resorts to suit all types of holidaymaker from couples and families with young children to young and lively crowds. The hotel accommodation that is on offer is just as varied. From small family run apartment blocks to luxurious world wide hotel chains you have the pick of the bunch whichever island you decide upon.
The largest of the three is Majorca, a vibrant island that is full of variation and home to a wide selection of resorts. Palma is the cosmopolitan capital that is renowned for its great shopping and fine dining facilities but also has a traditional and cultural side with a selection of museums, castles and cathedrals, a definite must see for anyone visiting Majorca. Magaluf on the southern coast is the liveliest resort and attracts the young and lively 18-30 bunch in their droves throughout the summer months with its close neighbour Palma Nova being a little quieter and having a few hotels that cater for families. On the northern coast of the island is Alcudia which is the place many families head to each year. A wide stretch of soft sandy beach awaits you here with a great selection of restaurants, bars and family pubs to keep the whole family entertained. Sa Coma is a modern beach resort situated on the west coast of Majorca and attracts a variation of British holidaymakers. A traffic free promenade filled with shops, restaurants ensures this resort is safe for everybody and there is the added attraction of lush countryside surroundings that appeals to nature lovers and walkers.
Menorca is the most demure island with a laid back and traditional vibe about it attracting holidaymakers that desire a relaxing holiday in unspoilt surroundings. This scenic island is covered with lush countryside and has an abundance of beaches of various sizes as well as rocky coves waiting to be discovered. Mahon is the pretty capital, nestled into the rugged landscapes and surrounded by lush farmyard. Perfect for letting the world pass you sit in a traditional tappas bar enjoying a delicious meal overlooking the pretty harbour. The liveliest resort on the island is Cala'n Forcat, although certainly not on the scale of Magaluf. Lively in a family focused way there's fun parks, bouncy castles and an aqua park to keep the children and adults entertained. Small sandy coves provide a great place for sunbathing and the shallow waters are enticing and safe. Evenings can be spent enjoying leisurely meals in restaurants, singing in karaoke bars or dancing in the small number of late disco bars. S'algar is the type of resort you never want to leave. Completely laid back it is the ideal place to get away from it all and totally rejuvenate. Holidaymakers lay out their towels and soak up the suns glorious rays on the rocks by the waters edge surrounded by a promenade of swaying palms. If soft sands are what you desire then a small stroll will take you to the glorious beach of Cala Alcaufar. The town of A'algar has a fine selection of souvenir shops and just enough bars and restaurants to offer everything you could possibly need.
Ibiza is the smallest but most well known of the Balearics and is probably the most contrasting. San Antonio is definitely the liveliest resort on the island with its abundance of all night clubs and bars and many summer festivals. The worlds' best D.J's flock here in the summer to play their sets to the army of clubbers partying the night away. Days are spent recovering on the sand beaches, shopping and enjoying the array of delicious eateries. Although known as the party capital of the Med, Ibiza also has its own laid back side and has resorts that cater for families and couples alike that seem a world away from the bright lights of San Antonio. Take Cala Longa as the perfect example, this sleepy resort is set in a stunning bay of sweeping sand and backed by pine clad forests. Holidays here are all about relaxation, lay out your towel on the white sands then take a dip in the calm azure waters to cool off before enjoying a leisurely evening meal and dancing in the scattering of late night disco bars.
Wherever you decide to take your Balearic Island holidays this year you will certainly be able to find yourself the perfect accommodation in the perfect resort to ensure you have a delightful holiday.
