Ravens defy conditions to seal win
Kent Ravens 36-24 Norwich Saxons
ON a day when the weather could not have been much more different to the previous weekend, Kent Ravens secured victory over Norwich Saxons in their first league game of the season at Princes Park on Saturday.
The conditions were not ideally suited to a free flowing game of rugby league and it was a fairly even affair in the first quarter.
Kent Ravens finally began to get into their stride and took the lead with a try from Lee Amzeleg before extending their advantage when Damien Izzard crossed the line. Ravens managed to score a third try through Richard Hewes, but Norwich had a mini-revival in the final 10 minutes and nabbed a try of their own to leave Kent 16-6 in front at the interval.
An early score in the second period from Ewen Drummond calmed the Ravens' nerves.
There were further scores in the second half from Monish Shome, Stuart Leppard, and Izzard.
Aiden Oakley kicked three goals and Hewes one to make the final score 36-24 to Kent Ravens.
Before the first team took to the field for their game, the junior Ravens under-13s played their match against Farnborough Falcons.
This was a fantastic opportunity for the youngsters to get their first taste of playing at Princes Park.
Unfortunately, the Ravens lost the game 40-26, but it was a very good performance and entertaining match to watch and the players seemed to enjoy the opportunity of playing within the stadium.
Kent Ravens' next game is against Hainault Bulldogs on Saturday at 2.30pm at Princes Park Stadium.
