Harlequins back-row star Chris Robshaw's superb season has been rewarded with two player-of-the-season awards and a call-up to the England Saxons.

The 21-year-old made 25 appearances as Quins pressed for a top-four place in the Guinness Premiership and - along with Tom Guest and captain Will Skinner - was named in the nation's second-string squad for this summer's Churchill Cup competition.

Robshaw signed a two-year contract extension in September after spending a spell on the sidelines with a fractured tibia and cruciate ligament problems.

Quins full-back Mike Brown claims his Tolworth-based team-mate has been one to watch for some time.

"Chris has been brilliant for us this year, but he has always played that way since I have known him," Brown said.

"I told people some time ago, watch this guy because he is going to be a very good player', and it is great to see him come in to his own this year."

Quins' bid to secure a Premiership play-off spot failed agonisingly when a late Tom Varndell try condemned them to a 31-28 defeat in the final round. But Brown believes there is still plenty for Quins to take from an otherwise successful campaign, including a win over Gloucester, in which he eclipsed then-England number 15 Iain Balshaw.

"It was disappointing to miss out at Welford Road because we felt we could go a lot further in the competition," he added.

"The win at home to Gloucester was a personal highlight, having had a good game against a player wearing the shirt I wanted at the time.

"But the way we played that game and to beat a top-four team in that style was even more satisfying."
