Crystal Palace winger Jobi McAnuff has committed his future to Crystal Palace following a clear the air meeting with Eagles chairman Simon Jordan and boss Peter Taylor.

The Eagles turned down a bid from Watford for the 24-year-old last week and it was reported McAnuff had become unsettled amid speculation surrounding his future.

But after Monday's meeting, the former Jamaican international has declared the saga is over and is he looking forward to starting the season at Selhurst Park.

"I had a meeting yesterday (Monday) and was pleased with how it turned out," said McAnuff.

"I said to the chairman it's a known fact I want to play in the Premiership and if the opportunity arose I would have considered it. But at the same time I'm contracted to Crystal Palace and I've got a job to do here and want to give my best."

Eagles boss Taylor had made no secret of his determination to keep his winger and was delighted the matter is now resolved.

"It was a very good meeting and again I've got a load of respect for Jobi. He's a very intelligent lad and you can understand if there is an interest from a Premiership club that anybody will want to play in the Premiership," said Taylor.

"I think everybody wants to better themselves, but Simon and myself explained to him how important it is that he stays here and he understands that and he wanted to give his point of view. But he's definitely staying here."

Free from speculation, McAnuff is now focusing on starting the season in good form with the Eagles after last season's play-off semi final disappointment.

Despite losing players of the calibre of Andrew Johnson, Fitz Hall and Emmerson Boyce who joined Wigan Athletic on Monday McAnuff feels Taylor's new additions will keep the squad just as strong.

McAnuff said: "They are all very experienced, especially at this level.

"Everybody knows how tough this division will be this year so it's important to get people in who know how to get out of it."

Another subject brought up at Monday's meeting was what position McAnuff is likely to be deployed this season.

Last season the winger was mainly used on the right, but had spells on the opposite flank and behind the main strikers.

But this season, it looks like he will be given a consistent role.

"I have been asked where I prefer to play and I said I don't mind.

"But if I had a choice I would play on the left, so I can cut in and maybe provide more of a goal threat.

"I think that is where I will probably play this year."

The Eagles first game of the season is against Ipswich Town on Saturday at Portman Road, with the first home game coming the following Tuesday against Southend United.

McAnuff admits the Eagles will be determined to put on a good show against the Shrimpers in front of their own fans, but is in no doubt it will be a tough game.

"The first game of the season at home in front of your own fans is always a special because you want to show them what we are going to be like this season.

"We want to make a good start but Southend will be hard to beat. We saw what Luton were like last season, they came up from League One and look how well they did."

Tickets for this match against the Championship new boys are available from the Selhurst Park box office on 08712 00 00 71.
