GREAT Marlow School's Girls quad won silver at the National Regional Championships in Nottingham last Sunday.

Rachael Finnis, Sarah Briggs, Leigh Merrifield and Kelley Weston were selected with Alice Denyer in the Junior 14 girl's quads and won their heat to earn their place in the final.

In the final, the girls, who all came through the Project Oarsome Scheme between the school and Marlow Rowing Club, led at the halfway stage before being beaten by Bedford High School who held on to win by three seconds at the finish of the 1500m race.

Jack Hockley was selected in the J15 single sculls and, having set the fastest time in the heats, he faded in the final and finished in fifth.

Meanwhile, Phil Shelley was selected with Tom Davey from Abingdon School in the Junior 14 double sculls where they also finished fifth. This was the first time pupils from the school had been selected for the Thames Upper regional team and they also reached their final.
