Belstone lift Champions Cup
Belstone 3 Broadfields United 1 . . .
Harrow Sunday Challenge League Champions Cup final . . .
Belstone produced a fine performance to lift the Champions Cup on Sunday.
Manager Joe Sheridan, true to his word, started all the substitutes from the recent Premier Cup victory and made five changes, but the hosts still proved too strong for Broadfields.
With the final being played on the beautifully-prepared Belstone pitch, in front of great local support, Sheridan asked not only for a victory, but to put on a performance that has recently been lacking. He was not let down.
Belstone took the game to Broadfields from the kick-off. Kevin Yule, playing in the midfield holding role, broke up play impressively and played some delightful balls to start attacks.
Mark Blackburne on the right side of midfield terrorised his full-back and was a major threat.
It was no surprise when he set up the first goal after 10 minutes, with a pin-point free-kick, which captain Chris Ingham got on the end of with a near-perfect header into the top left corner from 18 yards.
Broadfields struggled to get into the game and Blackburne then made it 2-0. He received the ball inside his own half, ran from the right past five defenders, before eventually cutting in and smashing the ball just under the bar from outside the area.
Number three soon followed. Jamie Arthur got on the end of a Nick Turner clearance, before beating his defender and rounding the keeper.
With a three-goal advantage, Belstone sat back in the second half and soaked up the pressure.
Broadfields twice came close in the early part of the half, but goalkeeper Rob Blackburne was in fine form.
Giles and Jamie Arthur both came close to wrapping the game up but were denied, as was Turner.
Broadfields pulled one back with 20 minutes to go, but it proved to be a mere consolation.
