Basey set for Valley loan exit

ALAN Pardew has revealed defender Grant Basey will be allowed to leave The Valley on loan.
The left-back made a promising start to his Charlton career after making his debut against QPR, although an injury picked up at the end of November kept him out of the first team until last week's 5-3 defeat at Blackpool.
Pardew claimed Basey's poor display at Bloomfield Road was not the only factor in his decision to let the young defender get first team football, but admitted it had played a part.
The Addicks boss said: "It was a number of reasons. The fact Ben Thatcher is back and Kelly Youga would have been first choice, other than for suspension, has meant really it was a luxury to keep Grant here.
"He needs experience to play. He's definitely going to be offered a contract here because he's out of contract at the end of the year and we have a big future for Grant.
"But he needs to learn and that defeat on Saturday will be a great learning experience for him because I cannot remember a team ever scoring five against me ever. So it was an experience for me, let alone him."
The boss also added he is keen for Izale McLeod to go out on loan, although no club has made a definite inquiry for his services yet.
"There's some truth in the fact I want Izale to go out on loan and play some games, but there's no club involved at the moment," added Pardew.
Pardew made use of the loan system today himself by drafting in highly-rated Chelsea winger Scott Sinclair until the end of the campaign.
The manager has been linked with Sinclair for several months and is delighted to finally have him on board.
He explained: "Scott Sinclair is a player I've been after for some time.
"I feel he's a player that will, or possibly could, jump us up a level.
"We've got some great wide players here, but I think he just gives us something a little bit different. I think he could be important in this run-in.
"This is a quality young player and we are very privileged Chelsea have allowed him to join us as there were a number of clubs he could have gone to."
Charlton also moved this week to sign rookie midfielder Dorian Smith from Tooting & Mitcham and Pardew believes he has the makings of another gem on his hands.
He said: "We'll probably loan him back because the manager of Tooting is a good friend of mine and I want him to play, but obviously he is going to improve on our training ground, so I don't think anyone loses.
"In all my years as manager and some of my playing years, I cannot remember having non-league players come in and make as big an impact as we've had this year.
"Chris Dickson being one, Dorian being another and we had another young player on loan that we are keen to bring back to the club from non-league.
"What Dorian and Dicko have got is a kind of street football mentality which I don't know if we are knocking out through the academy systems at the minute, because both those players technically are very, very good and do things that are not the norm. "Dorian has got great technical ability and I would say he's as good a passer as anyone I've got here."
Charlton attempt to bounce back from last weekend's humiliating reverse at Blackpool on Saturday when they travel to Sheffield United.
Pardew was highly critical of his defence after they shipped five goals and made particularly reference to the display of Greg Halford.
He said: "It's not like me to single out players, especially a player on loan. There are characteristics in a lot of players that need to be addressed and I think there is some characteristics in Greg's game that needs to be addressed.
"I wanted it to hurt him on Saturday and I underlined his performance with my comments to make a point to him and the reaction now is what is the most important thing.
"He's a terrific lad, a terrific player and I'm looking for a reaction from him not just to his performance, but to my comments."
