Thai boxing brothers Chris and Lyndon Knowles grabbed Britain's only medals at the World Amateur Games in Bangkok, Thailand, last week.

They took on fighters from more than 100 countries in the highlight of the Muay Thai calendar.

The Team England superheavyweights were among 22 from the UK fighting at the prestigious annual event, which marked the King's Birthday Celebrations, a week-long extravaganza in Thailand.

Chris, 28, who runs the Minotaur Thai boxing gym in Back Lane, Burnt Oak, saw off Turkish, Ukranian and Belarusian opponents to grab a silver medal in the A class, while Lyndon, 21, overcame fighters from Syria, Moldova and Iran to secure a bronze in the B class.

The brothers picked up the UK's only two medals, with almost a thousand fighters, including Minotaur's Ian Coe and Charlie Gillespie, making the trip.

Chris said: "Even though it is billed as an amateur event, some of the best pros also turn up, so it's a great opportunity to fight the Muay Thai elite. Many of the guys hold world titles and fight on the big-money professional K-1 Grand Prix circuits, so it was a great feeling to get my medal."

Chris, who is the UK's number two-ranked Muay Thai fighter, made his K-1 debut in Hungary last year.

"I've been offered K-1 fights in Europe and the US, so this year looks to be a big one for Minotaurs," he added.

Minotaurs runs junior, beginner, intermediate and advanced Muay Thai classes throughout the week, with Muay Thai and new Ju-Jitsu and MMA sessions at the weekend.

Chris also runs a thriving daytime programme with one-to-one sessions available at all levels, from basic skills to fight preparation.
