UPDATE: Eagles relent and allow Bolton to speak with Freedman

CRYSTAL Palace have granted Bolton permission to speak to manager Dougie Freedman about becoming the new Trotters boss after initially snubbing an earlier request to do so.

A statement released at 4.21pm on the Eagles’ website confirmed: “Following further discussions throughout the day, Crystal Palace Football Club can confirm that permission has been granted for Dougie Freedman to speak to Bolton Wanderers regarding their vacant managerial position.”

The news means it is now down to the 38-year-old Eagles chief to decide whether he wishes to replace Owen Coyle at the Reebok or stay at Selhurst to oversee Palace’s promotion challenge.

Bolton can offer Freedman a substantial pay hike and the security of a three-year contract, something which may well appeal to someone whose present deal in SE25 expires next summer.

However, the man himself is remaining tight lipped and may well decide the chance to continue working with the likes of Wilfried Zaha and take the club where he became a legend as a player to the Premier League is the deciding factor.

Crystal Palace fans will certainly be hoping so.
