Lions poised to stick with Forde for Turf Moor visit

DAVID Forde is set to keep his place for Millwall’s visit to Burnley after his return to the starting XI last weekend against Brighton.
The Irish international’s last selection came in the 3-1 defeat at Nottingham Forest in March with veteran Maik Taylor the man to replace him, initially on loan before completing a permanent switch from Leeds in the summer.
But manager Kenny Jackett decided to reverse those roles in the Seagulls game and looks likely to stick with Forde at Turf Moor.
“I will see but I won’t be chopping and changing because I do think people need to get into a rhythm and a flow,” the Den boss said.
“Their performances will help me to settle the side down.
“I also feel with David he has had a spell out of the side and he is hungry to go again.
“In the next spell of games we have to work towards getting the clean sheets we need.”
Explaining his decision to make the change last week, Jackett added: “It was a close one.
“I think I’ve got three experienced keepers and where we are at the moment we need clean sheets because our goals against record hasn’t been good enough, so we need experience and a presence.
“I decided to make the change not because of what Maik has done, it was just to be proactive.
“The side does need to change to get the results, it wasn’t anything individually Maik Taylor had done.
“Looking at the mix of players, David has been a successful goalkeeper for us over a number of years.
“I don’t think last season he had the best of years, he’s had a spell out but his presence, his talking and power is something I think is going to improve the side.
“I would be hopeful that between these guys we can find the formula that makes us competitive and stops these goals going in, whichever keeper I use, and I am looking at the defenders as well.”
Jackett also had no news to report on the search for a League One club to take Tamika Mkandawire on loan.
“I’ve had no enquiries at all,” the manager said.
“He has worked very hard, he is a tremendous professional and a very diligent person.
“Tam had another game for the U21s on Tuesday in a very good win against Swansea and every week he will get closer to being fully fit.
“He has been a big player for us in years gone by and the more games he plays, and the higher standard those games are, the quicker he will get to challenge for a start.”
