Ainsworth: We've got the firepower

GARETH Ainsworth says Wanderers have the firepower to score goals - but has told fans they shouldn't expect too many from him.

The player-coach was given his first start of the season on Tuesday and opened the scoring against Exeter.

He was impressed with Blues' attacking play and was left 'confused' at how Wanderers had managed to lose the game.

Ainsworth said: "We look like we've got firepower at the moment. We looked like we could have scored a lot of goals. That's probably the first game this season where we've out-shot a team. We had more shots, more final third entries, more penalty box entries - it's just unfortunate they had four shots and three went in.

"We scored two away from home against the side fifth in the league and if you do that you'd expect to get something.

"All in all tonight's probably the most promising performance we've had all season.

"With the likes of Dean Morgan, Jo Kuffour, Joel Grant and Richard Logan, and hopefully I can add to that, there's definitely firepower going forward."

The veteran winger's strike only found the net via a deflection but he said: "I'm claiming it without a doubt - it was going in if it hadn't hit their guy.

"It's one to add to the tally but I don't think there will be many going in there this season."
