Watford striker Joe Garner joins Carlisle United on one-month loan

Garner joins Carlisle on one-month loan Garner joins Carlisle on one-month loan

Watford striker Joe Garner has joined his former club Carlisle United on an initial one-month loan .

Garner joined the Hornets last season from Nottingham Forest in a move which we understand cost in the region of £200,000.

The 24-year-old has scored one goal in 27 appearances for Watford, nine of those coming from the bench.

Garner is returning to the club where he enjoyed his best form.

He scored five goals in 18 outings during his initial loan spell from Blackburn Rovers and then netted on 14 occasions in 35 outings following his permanent move, which then earned him the £1m transfer to Nottingham Forest.

Carlisle manager Greg Abbott said: "We needed a bit of depth in that position and Joe is one who has experience of playing at this level and higher.

"We know all about his qualities from his time with us a few seasons ago and we're looking forward to working with him again. He has that hunger to play football, he wants to be here and we think this will be another of those moves which will work out well for everybody."

Why only 28 days? He is way down the pecking order at the Vic and If they rate him so highly then why not loan him till January and then make the move permanent.

They'll want him to prove his fitness and competence at that level first. Then they'll extend the loan until Jan and then buy him for peanuts after that.

Good to see he is likely to get a game, even happier it is not with Watford. Hope we get to see some of our new strikers soon as Iwelumu up front as captain was not something I would have bet upon before the start of the season and am even more surprised as it continues each match.

Good!!

It had to be 28 days as the transfer window is closed its emergency loans only..... Unless they are classed as youth players. No doubt it will be extended and more than likely made permanent come January.
