Former Watford owner Laurence Bassini submits bid for Portsmouth

Former Watford owner Laurence Bassini has submitted a bid to buy Portsmouth, it has been reported.

Bassini left Watford this summer and The News in Portsmouth has today reported that the Stanmore businessman submitted an offer for the financially-stricken club yesterday.

The newspaper does add, however, that Balram Chainrai’s Portpin and the Pompey Supporters’ Trust offers are ahead of Bassini's.

Both Chainrai and the Trust have been given an extension until Friday to complete their bids by administrators PKF.

Cruel, but true if the Portpin or PST offers fail and LB takes control.

Not such an idiot, since he got £15m for the club, having spent £400k buying it & more or less nothing running it, due to player sale receipts. Decent bit of business

My guess is that Pompey are another prime candidate to buy cheap & sell-on within a year or two once their problems are lessened.

Of course that doesn't mean he knows how to run a club

Maybe he got bored with her and decided to sell her to a bunch of Italians.

No problem, he can just give his daughter a bucket and spade and leave her on the beach.

I hear the cleaner at Pompey is even meaner than the one who guarded the safe at WFC. Anyway Pompeys safe only has an IOU from Harry in it!
Can just see Spas walking around Portsmouth in a few months chanting pay up Pompey, Pompey pay up. Not wearing his shirt, ringing a bell and what hair he has sprouting wildly in all directions.
I take it the daughters been given up on Saturdays, or is he bored with fatherhood too!
Fickle and feckless, is being kind

Bent Baz is a Donkey
He is too dense to be a Monkey
He aint skinny, he’s chunky,
He’s ‘a bit unwell’, he ain’t spunky.

He lives in a council house,
Bent Baz has got a male spouse,
He probably lives in Luton South,
He ain’t ever going to own Portsmouth.

We would class Baz as a drongo,
His ego’s even bigger than the Congo,
He looks like a Luton Mongo-o,
He loves drinking his Um Bongo.

I Thank you

HC

Victor Meldrew had the correct phrase for this news.
Since I have no particular antipathy towards Portsmouth---should any stray Portsmouth fan be reading this---Don't touch this guy unless wearing gardening gloves---then wash your hands in strong antiseptic. Make sure the Portsmouth office safe is bolted to the floor, and the key is guarded by a ten foot tall Troll. Keep all deeds to Portsmouth pubs locked in an inpenetrable vault.
And do everyone a favour. Lock him up somewhere and throw away the key

Can someone - anyone - please explain to me how a man who went bankrupt over a hotel business in 2007 could manage to buy one football club and then bid for another? Where did he get his money from?

Are we all mugs and totally stupid, or what? What sort of world do we live in when men like Bassini can do what they like and get away with it? Do I have to remind everyone that he changed his name in order to escape censure when he bought Watford and then sold the club? Did he really get the money from the sale that he claims he did? Has anyone seen the accounts?

Good luck to Portsmouth. Personally, I wouldn't let this man near my Post Office account and I don't even have one!

Apparently £10 million.

Roy Stockdill says...

Well, who says so? Has anyone actually seen the accounts? Surely Watford FC should publicise them if they believe in being honest with supporters and followers?

Does anyone know how much Bassini (who changed his name from Bazini) sold the club for?

I personally wouldn't let this man near my kids' piggy bank!

Lutondown I do not know how bad or good Bas was But neither do you. At present the club have said nothing about fraudulent behaviour and people like PKF allow him to put in a bid and spend time with him.

Now until I see proof of what you claim should I trust the judgement of PKF and other professionals or you and your cronies?

You really ought to get some sleep Christopher, it really does cloud your judgement.
And yes I know he was bad. He lied, enough for me.

Haven,t these people suffered enough,if he gets hold of Pompey they,ll be more trouble down south and he could finish them off.
Don,t know if he,ll get the club but one way or another I don,t think we,ve heard the last of "The Famous Bassini" and he,s company of clowns.

It doesn't seem very long ago, does it, that Portsmouth were a Premiership club and FA Cup winners? As a lad, I can remember them winning the old First Division twice in successive years just after World War II.

Now, after a string of dodgy owners, they are in deep mire. If Bassini gets the club he will probably bring Harry Redknapp (and his dog with the overseas bank account) back as manager!

Notwithstanding last night's wonderful Real Madrid v Man City game, do people now understand why I say that football in this country is teetering on the brink of total catastrophe? Virtually all the top clubs have foreign owners and monumental debts to finance. It is surely only a matter of time before the whole edifice and house of cards comes crashing down.

Who would YOU trust - a banker or a football club owner?

Chris the Vic says...

Lutondown yet another great response..a big statement with no back up. Sleep may damage my judgement but as you show no judgement based on fact.

>Roy if he brings in Harry R they will have a good proven manager<

Not challenged in any way, indeed he is a brilliant manager and probably should have got the England job. But the court case, even though he got off, showed there is a dodgy side to him. Remember the bank account in the name of his dog and how he said he couldn't handle money?

You surely cannot deny that football is full of dodgy characters who wouldn't stand up to close public scrutiny?

For once I agree with you Roy ( only on football mind, have agreed lots on political threads).
Harry Rednapp has a large part to play in Pompeys demise, bringing players and paying them unsustainable salaries.
He couldn't do that at Spurs where Daniel Levy has an iron grip on finances.
He is of the Venables, Mullary school of Arthur Daley characters. Good fun but dubious.

Harry can speak for himself but as watford fan living in Portsmouth I have watched with intrest the ortsmouth story unfold. When harry left pompey they got 5mil for him and brought in over 50 million on player sales for players that he got very cheap. I think the question that needs answering is where did that money go.

No one deserves bassini. I wonder if the full story at watford will ever come out
