Wanderers to replay Rovers fixture

Officials took the controversial decision to abandon the match Officials took the controversial decision to abandon the match

WANDERERS will replay their abandoned League Two match with Bristol Rovers after the Football League rejected Rovers’ appeal this morning.

The game was first suspended because of heavy rain and lightning before it was officially called off in the 66th minute, with Rovers 3-1 ahead.

Bristol chairman Nick Higgs was unhappy with the decision at the time, but the Football League today has found in favour of Blues.

A Football League spokesman said: “Having considered the relevant submissions from all parties, The Football League is satisfied that, in very difficult circumstances, the match referee took the appropriate action by initially suspending and then abandoning the match following advice from the Safety Officer.

“The League fully supports the referee in his actions and, in line with its regulations, requires that the match be replayed in full and at the earliest reasonable opportunity.”

Higgs said: “I am really disappointed with the decision, because I feel it gives Wycombe a clear advantage, as we wipe the slate clean and start again.

“I would have restarted the game on 66 minutes, which would have been fair to both parties.

“We must use this sense of injustice to motivate ourselves in the rematch and ensure the result goes in our favour.”

A new date for the fixture has yet been set

To - Dave100487,

You have no idea about football !! it shows by the fact that you support WWFC!!!

The fair result would have been to play the game from 66min, so that we could have finished you off.

We maybe near the bottom now but i bet we are above you come the end of the season.

P.S we can even afford a youth system unlike you poor people :)

Enough said i feel :)

If something had happened due to the lightning at the visitors end, and the game was carried on, you will be whining that the game should have been stopped, so stop whinging, accept the fact, and get on with your life, its a game of football, not a life threatning decision that was made.

It must come as a nasty shock, to those Rovers "supporters," who were prepared to risk their players' lives, in pursuit of three points, that it was the referee who called off the game (as we've been saying all along,) not the Health & Safety officer.

Obviously you know nothing about football if you thought that the F.A would even consider overruling a ref and H and S officers decision to abandon a match on safety grounds in the days preceding the release of the Hillsborough files, it must have the shortest meeting in F.A history. And once that decision was supported an abandoned match must be replayed as per the F.A rules, Oh i forgot you know nothing about football.
P.S you cant afford a youth system you just dont know it yet, the EPPP (look it up) is a complete stitch up. :) now thats enough said.

Probably because that was the only chance they had of an away win all season!

Let's face it, if the score had been the other way round with Wycombe winning 3-1 at their place, Rovers fans would have been delighted to have the match abandoned. They would have been outraged had Wycombe dare complain about it.

I think you lot need to sort it out !!! see how you all go on and on about WWFC and what the rules are but not actually knowing anything !!!

Just admit it we have a much better team than you and we will be well above you in the league come the end of the season, so i think we should just let the football do the talking.

Im sure that we will make it a 3-0 victory to us when we do have the re-play.

I must admit though it was nice to hear your supporters (All 3 of them) cheer for once, as lets face it .....you lot havent had the chance to do that in a long while...lol !!!

you're posting on the local newspaper, not a WWFC fansite (though obviously some fans would read it)

how about you post your views here instead:

good grief!! youre still here.....

As you cant give a sensible reply I shall give you a little advice
1. Read my previous post it explains why the decision was made.
2.Stop posting petty insults it doesnt help your cause and you just come across as bitter.
3.As KentP says go onto the Gasroom they will gladly tell you where to get off.

I'm sorry.....I don't know I wasn't meant to add comments about this story in the 'comments section' silly me.....

So does the comment about talking about the decision also go to Dave100487 ?? As you will notice it was he who started the comments about the decision !! I was just sticking up for the fans of the mighty Bristol City!!!! .......oh....hang on this article is about the not so good team (would go as far to say scum) of Bristol Rovers!!!

In that case I'm glad you had the match abandoned !! Hope you stuff the 6-0 on the reply ;)

Thanks for the comments guys ;) and keep up the good work at WWFC ;)

but as was said before this isnt WWFC or its fans forum so what team you support or claim to means nothing to the people on here.

To - evenflo,

I appreciate that probably wasn’t the best place to try and have a football talk, but i just wanted to provoke a response from ‘Dave100487’ ……lol

But he/she was obviously the bigger man/women or hasn’t read the comments yet…lol
