Fuller showed enough in late Forest cameo why he will be big hit at Valley

CHARLTON blogger MATIAS GREZ is confident the Addicks can bounce back positively from their recent defeat at Nottingham Forest with a derby victory over Crystal Palace on Friday.
AFTER a week off due to the international break there is a lot to look back on, as well as a lot to look forward to.
I’ll start with the 2-1 defeat at Nottingham Forest, where Charlton looked second best for the first 80 minutes of the match.
Only when Chris Powell belatedly made substitutions and decided to bring on Ricardo Fuller did Charlton look anything like causing Forest problems.
With slick passing and sharp movement, Sean O’Driscoll’s side would have counted themselves unlucky not to be further ahead at the break, albeit after taking the lead through a fairly fortuitous goal.
Once they went two up after yet another swift passing move, Charlton were dead and buried.
For some reason Powell seemed reluctant to make the last two substitutions even though the side were toothless in attack and looked ready to concede a third at any moment.
However, with Fuller thrown into the mix, Charlton looked like a different side - a better side.
His Premier League quality showed, holding up the ball well, distributing it effectively and even grabbing himself a goal – I’m sure Lee Camp won’t want to take credit for it.
If Powell wants Charlton to finish as high as they can, then playing Fuller every week is a must, although who would want to the job of choosing to axe either Bradley Wright-Phillips or Yann Kermorgant to accommodate this?
Enough of Forest and onto the upcoming derby match against Crystal Palace.
It’s always nice going into a match and knowing you’re going to come out of it with all three points.
What is even more comforting is knowing that your local ‘rivals’ have been poor of late, finding themselves in the relegation zone, second from bottom and their only points coming from a lucky win against Sheffield Wednesday.
Charlton on the other hand have looked good on their return to the Championship, losing just once against a side who are expected to be in the mix for automatic promotion come the end of the season.
Out of the two teams who will line up on Friday, Crystal Palace look more like the recently promoted side struggling to avoid immediate relegation back into League One.
Three years is an exceedingly long time to wait for a match which both sets of fans look forward to intensely.
It’s just a ‘shame’ for the Eagles the Addicks will be taking home the spoils.
