Watford sign Udinese loanees Sergio Piccoli Neuton, Joel Ekstrand, Fernando Forestieri and Jean-Alain Fanchone

Watford have taken their number of summer signings to 16 with the addition of four more Udinese loanees.

The Italian club confirmed this morning that Cristian Battocchio had joined the Hornets on loan and this afternoon the Championship club added highly-rated Chelsea defender Nathaniel Chalobah – signings 11 and 12 since the Pozzos’ takeover.

And tonight Udinese have announced that Neuton Sergio Piccoli, Joel Ekstrand, Fernando Forestieri and Jean-Alain Fanchone have joined Watford on loan.

Fanchone has been with the Hornets all week, as previously reported by the Watford Observer, and was joined by Battocchio today. Now the pair will have three more Udinese team-mates at the London Colney training base.

Fanchone, 23, is a left back who joined Udinese from RC Strasbourg in January and was on trial with another of the Pozzos’ clubs, Granada, earlier this summer.

Like Battocchio, Forestieri was at Argentine club Newell’s Old Boys in his early teens and signed for Udinese from Genoa in 2009.

The 22-year-old, who predominantly plays as a forward or behind the front man, has featured for most of Italy’s age groups up until Under-21 level and has spent the majority of the last three years out on loan.

Last season he was at Serie B side Bari and scored twice in 30 appearances, the year before he scored three times in 20 outings for Empoli in the same division, and in the 2009/10 campaign he netted once in 20 outings for La Liga side Malaga. He has yet to play for Udinese’s first team.

Neuton is a 22-year-old centre back who can also play at left back or in defensive midfield.

He joined Udinese from Brazillian side Gremio in 2011 but only made nine appearances for the Italian club last season, although five of those were in Europe and included two starts against Arsenal in Champions League qualifying.

As for Ekstrand, he is a 23-year-old Swedish centre back who started his career at Helsinborg.

He joined Udinese in January 2011 and made 19 appearances for Udinese last season; seven of those coming in Europe and he also played in both games against the Gunners.

One player linked with a move away from Watford is centre back Martin Taylor, who has captained the side in recent matches.

The Watford Observer understands Sheffield Wednesday have been keen on the defender for more than a month and there are reports the Championship side are set to make a move before the transfer window closes at 11pm tonight.

The Hornets will not be in a rush to offload today, however, as the loan window reopens for British clubs next week.

Last year that's an entire match day squad

Ridiculous really can't see any Englishmen keeping their place except for Murray despite an excellent start from the likes of Taylor, Nos and hogg.

Hope rumours of tiny going to weds aren't true.

That's an entire team! They won't need time to gel because they already know each other.
The big question is
HOW LONG BEFORE OTHER SIDES IN THIS LEAGUE COMPLAIN ABOUT THE AMOUNT OF LOAN PLAYERS WE HAVE?????

What a joke.
I didn't realise I'd bought a ST to Udinese reserves.
I really disliked Bas but the Pozzos seem to be screwing us over a different way.
They've taken away the soul of my club in a matter of weeks.
I don't want this method of running a club to be successful and if it does fail we'll be left with no players and a debt the Pozzos have failed to state they will clear.

I would like to add I am bloody excited about what the future holds for watford fc as for english players I have said it once and I will say it again non of the english players we have apart from murray and maybe hogg would be good enough for the prem that aside if we did make it to the prem with unlimited funds and you could choose any players how many of your starting 11 would be (english)
Of course we could send all of the loans back because they are not english and focus on a relegation dog fight how about that? I hate negative people!!! Watford are on the up maybe not this season but within 2 years we will be there.

I don't think they will..most will just wait to see how we actually do.

This is going to create massive pressure for Zola to get results given we will have no excuses about lack of numbers.

Lets see how much these guys fancy Charlton or Cardiff away on a Tuesday night.

The other clubs can't complain. As long as there are 6 players in the matchday 18 that are homegrown (trained for 3 years in England before they were 21) Watford won't be breaking any rules.
Other clubs can easily do the same thing and I'm sure that most of them wish that they could get players like this in and make a promotion bid.

I think once we start getting attendances up, better league position the loan issue will change, and in fairness every existing player has been given a chance to shine , more than I would of given some of them .

I agree with some comments that I feel the heart and soul is being ripped out of the club as I would have liked a slow progress with home grown players in the squad making the results that pushes us up the table. I really hope that the players that have been through it all in recent years are good enough to stay in the team. I think Nosworthy is a fantastic acquisition for us, he has been rock in defence, Eustace is slow but has great leadership skills and chips in with the odd goals and I actually prefer Bauben. Hogg is fantastic in midfield and dispute Lumo’s slow progress from last season he has done extremely well to win the fans over with his end of season performances. As for this year Lumo look like a man possessed!! Defenders can not handle him!! The perfect combination is a perfect mix of loans and the best of last year. We should not have lost in the capital cup as this would have been a perfect cup to test Udinese loans. On the positive side I'm ridiculously excited about what the Pozzos are doing but I really hope they keep the entity of the club close to their heart like they said they would do in the press releases.

WAKE UP WE WOULD NOT HAVE A CLUB A FEW WEEKS BACK

BAZ ROBBED SEVERAL MILLION OUT THE CLUB !

We were 48 HOURS FROM ADMIN, Minus 10 points, FIRE SALE ETC ETC

SO WAKE UP !!

EVERY EXISTING PLAYER HAD MORE THAN A FAIR CHANCE TO SHINE

HOW MANY GAMES DID GARNER START IN PRE SEASON ETC ?

After going for 40 years, and staring at a crap stand etc, I am the most excited I have ever been !!

ZOLA is a Gentleman, he wants to do really well. The management are backing us, yes we may have too many players, but it's a case of "pick the bones out of all this potential"

If we play good football, build a new stand, I will be a happy bunny, championship or higher

SO EMBRACE OR DON'T GO !

This is crazy! I have to admit that i dont know much about any of these Udinese players but they all sound promising and exciting! I do have one concern though, and that's just regarding the size of the squad and the potential divisions / conflict between groups of players and cliques forming. If only a few loan players come over, then they will integrate and bond with current players and make an effort with the language barrier snd culture, but if there's a dozen from Udinese I can see them kind of being cliquey and then the remaining players from last years squad forming a separate clique and I would presume that is not healthy? Although then again what do I know? I guess they are all professionals and when they pull on the shirt they fight for the cause. I remember Sheringham and Andy Cole apparently hated each other but didn't stop them being successful in the same team. I can see pretty much all the players from last season being shipped out ASAP with maybe only Hogg, Iwelumo, Nosworthy, Bond, Doyley, Eustace staying, along with the very best of our youngsters. I wouldn't have a problem with that although hope Taylor does stay. I think the plan is to get us to Prem ASAP with loan signings then once we are there, to keep the best loan stars, (maybe keep keep rather than loan) and then splash some cash on transfers as opposed to relying on loans alone. With the exception of our best youngsters who may prove good enough, i dont think any of last years squad will be in the WFC premiership team if (when!) we get there (with the exception of Hogg, maybe).
Oh dear ive banged on a bit. Sorry to bore you all, just passing the time on my commute home! Up the 'ORNS!!

Can anyone remember a club signing so many players in such a short time?

I think this is a genuine attempt at fast tracking the club to success but i guess the concern is that it is a lot of change in a short time and will it gel and work. It does feel a little scatter gun and over the top as well as exciting but if the hype is true the players coming in on the whole are a class above most of what we had already. At least its being done in a way that minimises the expense to the club and if the players dont work out were not stuck with them and if they do by the sounds of it they'll be back next season, and the one after and so on until they get sold for big money.

If the worst happens and this doesnt work out and the Pozzo"s decide to bail out the club isnt going to be left lumbered with a bunch of players on wages it cant afford. Nathan Ellington anyone?

Amid all the arrivals remember the name: Nat Chalobah. He isnt just 'highly-rated'. He is outstanding and will go on to be an England regular for a decade. He is the only central defender I have seen execute an (almost) perfect scissor kick in the opposition box and is the best of a very good new generation of young England players. My only regret is we only have him until the New Year. He's only a little youinger than Phil Jones was when he broke through and I hope he is ready to do so too. And he has more potential. In a coupe of years we will be saying we remember him when he was at Watord.

We v spent too long being satisfied with mediocrity. Our attempts at staying in the premiership were a travisty. We should, as fans, be happy to see our club being dragged into the present, at last able to consistantly compete at a top level. Not just satisfied with a decent cup run, or the odd one nil win over a 'big' team.

We should be grateful that the Pozzos have been prepared to stake their money and reputations on little old watford.

Get with the times, i for one want more from my club and i actually think we are witnessing the start of that.

Roll on success, roll on free flowing football, roll on the premiership.

Surely that first half against Birmingham has got your mouths watering for more??

This is a joke. Although watford are not breaking any rules I think they are cheating. It can't be fair that they could field a squad of players that are not even theirs. The club has completely lost its identity. They might as well rename the club Udinese b. How long before the Italians relocate the club? MK Dons anyone? Travesty for English football. I'd be disgusted if they sell Taylor

Guys you lot seem to forget Zola has a two year agreement. The reason why all these plalyers are here is so that Zola can not look at a team progressing this year but next year too. For crying out load Rome was not built in a day.
It is a 46+ game season.
The fact is some of the existing players are not good enough for the club to progress.
As for the youth set up, Zola has not been frightened to use these players again if they are good enough eg Connor Smith.
The trouble is we have been so use to fighting against relegation, using our youth players etc.
It wasn't so long ago that we were doing not too bad before xmas only for the players to flop and us only taking 9points from the last 14 games. That was under MM.
Expect a large number of players to go out on loan when the Window opens.
Be patient, get behind the team and the time to start whinging is NOT NOW.
If you don't like it go and support that lot up the road!.

People are surprised why the crowds aren't coming back, why the Pozzzos have not captured the imagination.

I'll tell you why: as anyone without their head up theirars can see, this is no way to run a football club. No-one can keep up with the signings, (least of all Zola), none are from the area or even the country they will play in. None will be committed to the club, beyond putting themselves in the fabled 'shop window'.

I can remember when Watford wanted to be more than a shop window, when we wanted to be special, different, a unique place, a club with a soul.

Those days are long gone - and the men who are killing us are being hailed as saviours by their brain-dead cheerleaders on here.

Never supported Bas or hoofball so easy to dismiss your "objections."
The Pozzos haven't stated what money they are putting in and all they seem to be doing is enhancing the reputation of the Udinese squad. What has happened to the debt which left us so close to administration? Is it just going to be left quietly on the books for the next owner to deal with? When all the "loanees" are gone how many senior players will we actually have?
Duxbury is most definitely the wrong person at our club-just ask any WH supporter.
Lots of questions and virtually no answers from the Pozzos.

Yawn. It's getting boring having to repeat "Would you prefer administration?". Had it not been for the Pozzo's, we'd be in a much worse position than we are now. I'll assume that you won't be cheering when we get promoted within the next two years then?

Think of it as an all you can eat buffet. Fill your plate, try a bit of everything, decide what tastes good then go back for seconds. Meanwhile a waitress had cleared your table and binned what you havnt finished. Delicious!

What do you mean the crowds aren't coming back? It's still frigging August - THE SUMMER HOLIDAYS! Attendances will pick up in September and particularly if we see attractive football at The Vic for the first time ever! I find it odd that you are generalising about all 16 new players and saying none will be committed. How can you be so arrogantly judgemental? As for slating them and saying they are just putting themselves in the shop window isn't that what all young aspiring players do at smaller clubs?

As I have said before, DJ Watford is actually Bazzini!! The Pozzo family have been in charge of Udinese for 25 years. They are not here for the short term. Udinese pay a maximum wage of £45,000 per week. They do not spend beyond there means. They develop young potentional like we do. They sell that potential for multi millions. We used to sell for pennies, so its good that we now have some real negotiators in charge. Udinese are one of the only clubs in Italy to have a managable debt so much so that they could clear it outwright if needed. They have one of the best and most proved business models in Italy. They are used to dealing with small crowds. Udinese average around 20,000 people per game and they challenge for champions league football. They have the smallest budget in Italian football but like i say reguarly challenge for champions league football playing passing, attacking football. Granada have had loans from udinese with them for 3 or 4 years, but as the balance sheet isnt as healthy they are classed as loans. Like ares why put on the balance sheet we have signed 16 players and put us 30 or 40 million pound in the red when Udinese keep the cost and we keep an improving balance sheet. Good business sense to me. Against Bradford I saw a number of kids with tops with Vydra and 20 on the back! They are embracing the change as they are now seeing a positive, attacking and passing style that now wont get them laughed at at school! All the players been bought in are top quality who will get us all buzzin an give us such a good atmosphere!

Your post did not consist of justified concerns, it consisted of several sentences which showed your failure to comprehend the culture of football in current times. We live in a different world to yesteryear mate, and we need to embrace change unless you are happy to be a championship club, or worse, for eternity. Try to look on the bright side of life.
Culture of current times? I've never seen a club get 16 players on loan in the space of a month!
Loan? transfer? what does it matter. Fair play to us for finding a loophole which enables us to loan instead of purchasing quality players that will add to the squad. QPR have got 12 new players this transfer window and many other premiership teams have made over 10 signings during a transfer window. I'm interested in your statement saying we have lost our identity. Slightly O.T.T? No?

It feels a bit weird signing so many players, especially considering i've never heard of any of them! Hopefully by the end of the season every football fan in the country would of heard of them as they've set the division alight! Its time we see change as a good thing,no matter how extreme the change!

I'll stick my neck out but without seeing them play I reckon they'll be better quality than Forsyth, Garner, Dickenson and several others.

What are these concerns you are so worried about? If they turn out to be average then we give them back with no cost or commitment.

We are talking about owners that have run successful football clubs for many years and a manager that would have graced any team in the world.

As for "indenity"..how many players do you think really care about playing for the club they do?

Most would be off in a flash for a better deal and I include most of ours in that expect maybe Doyley.

I see some are worried the youngsters won't get a chance but then Dyche hardly played them and the Under 18s were pretty awful last season only winning about 4 games.

The best players in Murray and Smith have been involved in the 1st team squad.

One thing I would say it that I hope Taylor doesn't go as ie one of the defenders who has ability on the ball.

shows how much you know!, what's that ~ captain of Sheffield Wednesday!!
He must've travelled the 10 junctions up the M1 from Derby to Sheffield tonight. Disappointing as I thought he has been superb, but Sheff W must've made an offer the club and player thought was too good to turn down. Even Wobby didn't expect this to go through, but things change quickly. Just like when Sordell was going to Cardiff but switched to Bolton whilst in car

Who cares if there are not enough English players in our team. How many premiership teams have this problem. If any of u want more English players go support Luton Town. The main aim here is to get back to the premiership and that's what the Pozzo's are doing and it's great! I don't care how we get the players! As long as they are wearing Yellow and Red it's our players, players of Watford FC the club I love from 1984! And how things have changed along the years so adapt to it! Love what's happening.

Singhorn72 says...

Doesn't matter if the crowds are not coming. Once we're in the Peemiership that won't be a problem. I see the plan for Watford is positive as long as we don't have owners that are trying to get the keys to our safe. 16 players and not much cash involved. A year ago who u think we would ever sign 16 players a season. Be happy with what's happening. Even premiership players don't last long so don't talk about players going to be around in the next few years or going back to Udinese. Look at Van Der Vart, Andy Carroll, Charlie Adam and many more. That's football now and it's gonna be this way.

I think the difference now is if Baz was still owner now we would have a team & at best we would have 10 point taken away.. This football team will always be ours.. Players, owners all come and go.. It's us the supporters who make Watford...
I doubt we'd have a club now if Baz was still in charge, people are moaning about all the new players, lets face it, last year when the stalwarts played they over achieved and finished 11th, so if SD hadn't worked a huge miracle it would probably been mid table and that's being polite.

Personally I'm gutted my little Watford, who I have supported for 45 years has been decimated and the " good little old Watford is no more" but I'm clever enough to embrace progress and see this as " at least we still have our Watford " so lets make the most of this, Hypothetically in 2 years time if all these players turn out to be as good as we've seen with Abdi, Vydra, Pudil etc and the Pozzo plan works and brings Premiership footy back to the Horns, how many of the negative comment writers will decide to go, in my 45 years I have seen players come and go, I was mortified when we sold Billy Jennings to West Ham, nearly had a coronary when God GT left in 1987, but I'm still an ardent follower and will be for the rest of my days.

You could be a supporter of Portsmouth who have probably only 2 weeks of life left or be the team from near the M1 playing in that coloured square league.

Rumour has it that the Vic will be renamed Old Trafford 2, but we are watford, we are still here, so lets all jump on the latest reincarnation of the merry go round and enjoy it, The future's bright the futures Golden.....COYGB

I don't want this method of running a club to be successful and if it does fail we'll be left with no players and a debt the Pozzos have failed to state they will clear.

Move with the times all you negative fans out there. Enjoy the good times to come. I for one am very excited about the future. I have been a season ticket holder since 1970 when my dad first took me along to see the hornets - I used to stand on a box by the wall between the Shrodells stand and the Rookery watching us play the likes of Rochdale and Workington when we were scrapping it out at the bottom of the old 4th Division. There have been may ups and downs on the Watford FC roller coaster over the years. I think the takeover by the Pozzo's will turn out to be the start of a wonderful new era for our club.

It seems the definition of moron has changed to not jumping on bandwagons on someone elses say so and basing your opinion on facts. LD are you going to tell the English Oxford dictionary of their error?

How childish name calling and swearing at people who have a diferent opinion to your own. How ignorant not appreciating people can love Watford just as much but feel differently about what they are seeing. Thankfully despite their attitude no one has actually put the bully boys in charge - seriously who would?! - and they can f off themselves.

Financially with Udinese sharing wages and the club not shelling out on transfer fees WFC is not being put in jeapordy. This mass influx is just an attempt to fast track promotion but you cant get established in the Prem without a settled core so things will calm down if promotion happens with the same players if theyve done ok coming back on loan or being bought and staying at the club until sold on again for bigger money. There is always going to be some comings and goings thats the way it works, but not on this scale.

Flip side is that weve seen time and again clubs try and buy success and fail so trying to loan your way to the big time may not work either. such a large number of players means if one doesnt perform you move to the next but that doesnt encourage a successful team necessarily.

All these signings has also masked the fact weve still not heard much from the owners, management or even gfz about what happened/happening. Be good if gfz told us if these players are ones he's asked for and wanted or if he's been told to accept them.

Also there must be numerous rules surrounding multy club ownership both within football and maybe the financial world. What for instance happens if down the line both clubs meet in European competition?
Also as immigration rules apparently make it easier for Italian clubs to sign youngsters from outside the EU does that mean Udinese will remain the centre and preferred club for the scouting network or will wfc have equall access to scouted players?

Might as well close down the academy. I expect to get the 'England' chants from opposition fans now. Moaning managers whinging about the loan system. "We're Watford, Nobody likes us, We don't care!"
If I was another fan looking from the outside I would take a quick dislike to Watford...but I'm not, so let's just all sit back and enjoy the ride. If it does all go wrong (having the reserves of 4th place Italian side does not mean we'll go up) we'll have that right to vent our spleen at the board for what it's worth.
