Watford boss Gianfranco Zola asks fans for patience as he looks to excite

Gianfranco Zola has asked supporters to be patient with his new management team as they try to create a Watford side which will "excite" the fans.
Zola was appointed Hornets manager a month ago today and it has been noticeable during pre-season that he wants his side to play 'a passing game'.
It was evident he had told his team to play from defence against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday and whilst his team kept possession well, the Golden Boys struggled to break down the Premier League side in the final third.
Sunday was Zola's first game at Vicarage Road and the Italian was pleased with the warm reception he received.
He said: "I was really pleased, the supporters were very encouraging with us.
"All we ask is for a little bit of patience with us, to give us a chance. Then it will be down to us to make them excited, but today (Sunday) was very encouraging."
Watford have their final pre-season game tonight away to Gillingham, with kick-off 7.30pm.
At the weekend Zola indicated that many of the players who featured against Spurs, two days ago, would not be involved tonight.
When asked whether it will be a first team game, he replied: "It will be a mix, I don’t think the players that played 90 minutes today will play on Tuesday as well."
Manuel Almunia, Martin Taylor, Nyron Nosworthy, John Eustace and Mark Yeates all played 90 minutes on Sunday. Whilst Lloyd Doyley , Carl Dickinson, Jonathan Hogg, Prince Buaben and Sean Murray featured for more than an hour, with Joe Garner playing for 58 minutes.

Zola must spend time on getting the players to play a new formation, key players getting used to different roles in the team, then they have to build a understanding of when to keep the ball, playing around the back to give the front 3 a rest.. the players have to also build an understanding of when it is right to keep the ball to tire the opposition and also when to play at a higher tempo to penertrate the opppostion with the balls through or in behind the full backs for the 11 or 7 to run onto.
The championship will be a test to play this way, so dont be surprised if it doesnt come together for at least a couple of months
The new 443 formation, is easily the best formation when players can play, solid when attacking and you make a 5 in midfield when defender, high tempo to get the ball back, then when we have the ball back the players must keep it and move it quick, you keep the ball to try and draw the opposition out then once you do that you play high tempo around them and break quick with the 11, 7 and 9 as the front three.
If fans expect this to happen straight away I would stay away and moan at home till at least November..
It is exciting times and I for one cant wait to see Watford play this type of footbal.

And what's wrong with lollipops on sports day? I like them everyday! But me Old nemesis your right, only winners should get lollipops, losers should go away and take up reading or skipping.
And when you said good strikers score with heads and feet, what about hands? Maradonna liked the odd 5 digit volley, and he wasn't bad for an Argie!

I play better when I'm confident at all the sports I take part in. Everyone does. It's obvious.
Another who seems to get slated is Yeates. He had more assists than anyone last year. And scored a few too. Can't really see what the issue is with him. He's not a burst of pace winger but he's better than plenty we've had and have got.
Lets just be supportive and excited for a bit and let them get on with it eh? PLEASE don't do what we've done the last few seasons and end up with half the Rookery having a go after two minutes of a match. We've GOT to make more of an effort for our club. Our fans at home, on the whole, have been dire for the last few years and it would be nice to think we can crank it up a notch and enjoy ourselves in the stands a bit more wouldn't it?
Some will say the team needs to be better, the ground needs to be better etc but I say that's rubbish and it;s up to us to create the environment the players love playing in.
I for one am massively looking forward to the season and love the look of all our signings. Come on you Orns!

I support Watford and anyone that wears our colours - Deeney , Garner or even big Chris.
There is nothing I can do about who wears our colours or what style of football we play.
I will back Zola and his efforts as he clearly knows more about tactics than me.
I can't wait until the new season and my own opinion is that a top half finish will be a fantastic achievement - the Pozzo's will know better than me that Rome was not built in a day.

I will give Zola the time as long as he gives/shows us a team capable of moving forward, to that end we need new strikers, if he sticks by what he has said Chris wont feature yet he played at Gillingham so sort of sends out the wrong message, Deeney should never wear a Watford shirt again and be sold off, Forsyth and Garner need to start producing and I can't comment on the loan strikers or potential new striker yet€, but as he is 30 he clearly has a up hill struggle as a unknown and it looks like our set up will mean players in different positions to what they were in last year which obviously means we will need more time to sort out our starting eleven positions. I have been dissapointed with the set up so far in the pre seasons as it has been a big jumble of players moving around but guess with the training that will show who's in the mix and capable of stepping up, also we do seem to have a team of unfit and injured players who will need to get up to speed very quickly for us to hit the ground running, like others eventually gave Dyche the benefit till Christmas Zola has like wise from me, if we are not on an even keel to Dyches record then I will be very dissapointed with the investment made to improve the club so far.

Joe Garner played for 58 mins ??? must of missed that.
Got a feeling Garner will be ok if he listens to Zola...COYH
