Powell hints at loan exit for keeper
CHARLTON keeper John Sullivan could be set for a loan move away from The Valley, according to manager Chris Powell.
The former Millwall stopper was Ben Hamer’s regular understudy last season as the Addicks ran away with the League One crown but his lack of first team action could be about to end soon.
Powell said: “John Sullivan has been excellent for us last year, played a few games in the cup and in the league but we want John to play regularly.
“We are hoping something might happen there for him but he is still our keeper.
“He is coming out to Spain but long term I would like him to get some game time now.”
Sullivan was not involved in today’s 4-0 victory over Welling at Park View Road even though the Addicks used two keepers.
Youngster Nick Pope played in the opening 45 minutes and was replaced at the interval by Spanish trialist Jacobo Sanz Ovejero, a 29-year-old who has previously represented Real Valladolid and spent last season in Greece with Asteras Tripoli.
Powell said: “He has come to our attention through various people.
“We checked him out beforehand where he has played.
“He has got good experience, he was in Greece last year, we’ve had a look at him this week and we felt it was right to give him a half.
“His English is OK, he has done well this week and we plan to take him to Spain.
“We will see how it progresses but he done OK.”
