New Watford owners have no set time frame for Vicarage Road redevelopment

There is no set time frame when it comes to the redevelopment of Vicarage Road Stadium, Hornets chief executive Scott Duxbury has confirmed.

The Hornets ground has had only three stands for several years following the closure of the East Stand and work on the South-West Corner has also stopped.

The Pozzos stated stadium redevelopment was “an essential part of the project” but when asked whether there was any timescale, chief executive Scott Duxbury replied: “No. They are quite clear that their first priority in this window is investing in the playing squad.

“There is financial shoring up that needs doing following the previous regime and the Pozzos are sensible. They are not coming in with the big ego, they want to grow the club.

“The moment there is demand in the stadium and we are filling it out week-in, week-out, and the team are moving up the league, then we will start the stand.

“But one thing for sure is that it will be developed. There is absolutely no doubt.

“If the fans want to hurry up and come then we can sell out every week and then we will build it, Duxbury joked.

”We know that once we are in the Premier League, it will have to be built so if we get there sooner rather than later, it will be built. If we are successful in the Championship and are selling out each week then we will build it.

“It will be a pure business decision on the basis that the club is growing and we need it. It is absolutely within their plans to do it sooner rather than later.”
