Hornets midfielder Stephen McGinn has signed a new contract with the club.

The 23-year-old has penned a one-year deal with the Vicarage Road side with an option held by Watford for a further year.

The Scot was offered a new contract at the beginning of May but had yet to agree terms when his existing deal expired at the end of June.

McGinn has not played a competitive match for more than 16 months following a cruciate knee ligament injury.

He returned to ‘full fitness’ towards the end of last season, playing in several Reserve team matches.

Having heard him on hornets player a few times last season he seemed a decent lad.
However having taken so long to resign he is a lucky boy to get the new contract.
I hope he is able to carry on where he left off prior to his injury.

100 per cent agree Cliff. Was impressed with him on 3CR as a commentator but a bit disappointed that he obviously didn't really want to commit to us. Still give him a chance. New regime must see something in him

When he was injured for so long, the club and supporters stuck by him- so why didn't he rush and sign a new contract?

I think (although it is just a guess) that he probably wanted more than a one year deal so he would be secure in case he gets another serious injury. When he realised that the club (and no one else) were going to give him that, he had to sign. I can't imagine with his injury problems that he would be happy with a one year contract.

If he can perform like the player he was heading towards when fit then I am sure all will be forgiven and a new contract will be offered on longer and better terms, it is the right thing to do and his agent should have guided him on the point instead of this stupid stalling, his future really are in his feet!

Agree totall y with the first part of Corbindallas's comments, I just wonder whether Mckay was destabilising the situation and then had a change of heart before signing Stephen.
Howeve he has signed and is now a hornet so best of luck Stephen and if you get a chance hope you take it, but the centre of midfield is already competitive with John, hoggy and prince competing and a wide midfield berth needs a player with pace although at present only Sean seems to qualify.
