Trio of backroom staff set to follow Sean Dyche out of Watford

The Hornets' assistant manager Ian Woan and coach Tony Loughlan are set to follow Sean Dyche out of the club, the Watford Observer understands.

Watford this morning refused to comment on the staff changes but we understand Woan, Loughlan and head of medical Dave Hart are likely to leave the club.

It is unconfirmed but we do expect long-standing goalkeeping coach Alec Chamberlain to remain with the Hornets.

Woan, Loughlan and Hart all joined Watford last summer following the appointment of Dyche.

It is currently unclear whether there will be more departures and the club are unlikely to comment before Gianfranco Zola's press conference, which will take place tomorrow afternoon.

Former Napoli coach Dodo Sormani and ex-Juventus coach Giancarlo Corradini are expected to be two of Zola's appointments.

Watford's players were due to return for pre-season today but the club decided to push it back a day.

I would hope the delay in info now is to allow Zola and co to see exactly what they have and need to take the club forward. Hopefully who does stay or comes in is an improvement.

Well, well, well...its been an interesting couple of weeks hasn't it! So how are all of you doom and gloom mongers? Little Old Watford are on the rise...in response to corbindallas, we need the following: GK, RB, LB, CB, CM, RM, LM, CM, CM, CF, CF and about 3 new members of staff!! I'm hearing some good rumours...like:-

Carlo Cudicini, Jordan Rhodes, Matthew Etherington, Neuton...but I am not naive. I anticpate a load of foreign unknowns coupled with some strong free transferred players.

Hopefully the delay will be to allow Zola to communicate with people inside of the club, whether personnel, players or staff.

Whether people stay or go it is only right that they be the first to know prior to public announcement. I imagine that this is a mistake the new owners/directors will have learned from the Sean Dyche departure.

Looking forward to tomorrow afternoon - hope it will be covered live somewhere?

He is going to serve his time in prison. Yes he is a thug, but people shouldnt be punished twice for the same crime. Besides, I am sure we have had some "convicted thugs" in our team before.

We need 5-6 new players. I see the only survivors being our CBs (will mapps still go?), JE (not pretty but everyone needs a ball-winner), JH and SM. If we get 2 18 year old Italian CBs on loan I will be disappointed !

The fact that some people moaned about Foster tells you all you need to know about those people.

Loach fair enough... Alec hasn't done wonders for him.

But I don't think you can blame Alec for Richard Lee being too short!!!

Away from the conviction, you need to luck at Deeney as a player.

Can he pass and link-up play? No. Can he shoot? No. Can he dribble? No. Can we rely on him to score the goals to get us up? No. Does he fit into a side playing passing football? No.

Can he run around a lot? Yes.

Is that good enough? No.

Now that we have some potential for new signings or loans please lets not get all arrogant about things. I thought as a club we were better than that!

The way people talk about players and managers is ridiculous when you remember the vitriol poured at Malky on this forum when he left - well loyalty should work two ways.

Sean has now gone and some people even try to belittle his (and his staff and players) achievements from last season.

Yes there will be inevitable changes in personnel but to bad mouth Alec Chamberlain (a servant of the club of both good and long standing) makes me sick quite frankly.

My point isnt that I dont want a decent team but I want a decent club. The club that Graham Taylor built (and lets be honest he did build it) was based on hard working players and honesty and respect from everyone at the club for everyone else. He even came out with a banner saying sorry to the Vicarage Road end when he felt his comments had gone too far. That is the club I support, that is the club I want. That part of the club isnt in either the owners or the managers hands it is in the hands of us the supporters who can dare to be something different to the neanderthals that some clubs call fans! Cue abuse and allegations of clapping I'm sure but this is the part of the clubs identity that is at least as important as what goes on on the pitch.

If you were a player and looked at some of the nonsense on here you wouldn't have any loyalty to the club - you reap what you sow.

I hate the way we Neanderthals are discriminated against. We were actually peaceable beings that we're eradicated by the homo sapien species.
So to equate us to Football hooligans who I believe to be human beings is downright unfair and I'm taking this to the race relations commission who will campaign for me to get lots of free money from the welfare state, a six bed mansion and allow me to rent my cave out as a nice little sideline.

I understand your points and yes we have journeymen players in some instances but my point was that we are defined by how we treat them - I felt that Sean Dyche created a hardworking team with a small budget but most importantly I felt that the club as a whole came together more than it had in many years and I liked that. That does not preclude me from cheering on the team as much as anyone else.

I would feel saddened if everything that Graham Taylor built has gone - I thought it might still be in some small way part of the who the club could be "mes que un club" as Barca would say.

Graham Taylor is a legend and he gave us a ride unequalled, and those of us who remember what dark days we had prior to GT and SEJ appreciate what he did not only to the club but the Town as a whole.
But sad as it is for those who go this is a new start, one I would have only dared dream of a month ago. Dyche did good, and made the most of what he had, but he is not quite the legend some are portraying him as. Titles like that are strictly for the GTs of the world, hence I do hope the new stand is named after him.
So onwards and upwards, hopefully sexy football will arrive and come on let's savour the excitement.

I think that too many people are getting too carried away with all of this. Sure we will need a few additions to complement what we already have. Too many changes all at the same time will de-stabilise the team and it will take months for them to settle in by which time any chance of promotion will be out of the window. A Left back, a decent (quick) winger, and 2 good strikers would be a good start. Then give it time to settle and have another look at how it's going in January and if we need others at that stage we can bring them in. Also, I don't like the way that some of our so called "fans" seem to be forgetting that respect has always been something that has been shown to former players that have given years of service as players and coaches, That is "The Watford Way", now we've had this exciting take over let's not decend into an ungracious rabble like the fans of so many other clubs. You may not be happy with certain coaches but at least show them some respect. Lay off AC. It seems that some people always have to look for someone to moan about, let's just be happy with this takeover and see how things go.

Alec Chamberlain has been a good servant to WFC but it is probably time for a change. Apart from Ben Foster the recent keepers have not shown the improvement they should have done. Loach is young and I feel he has potential. He has to be braver, command his area and the back four more and punch better. All of these can be improved under a good new coach. I hope there are not too many drastic changes, some new requirements are obvious as been said in earlier posts, but I am sure GZ will not want to destabilize the team as a whole, and work towards a longer term goal. I wonder if there will be any association with Chelsea for loans. I also think the fans will have to be tolerant if we are to play the Italian/Spanish way. The ball will be passed around the backs and midfield which in the past was too technical for a lot of fans. Time will tell, I look forward to an interesting few weeks and then the season.

Well said LD, there is little loyalty in football these days and we do need to move forward and grab this new era with both hands!
However we do have to remember where we came from and our roots! We have fans from all different backgrounds at WFC and that is because of the area the club is situated in, there are the hoity toity well to do types, the rough and ready working class boys and a fair amount of middle class BMW drivers too!! We certainly cant afford to lose any of those fans if we want to get into the premier league and stay there, All fans regardless of how they want to support the team should be welcome, so I propose that we stop telling each other I quote "support another team if you don't like it" ! I have done it in the past and what good would it actually do for the club? lets agree to disagree on certain topics and be grown up about it and then move on. I have certainly had my disagreements in the past but the one thing I can say about all those fans I have disagreed with is that they are all passionate Horns!!!
I personally would love a bit more atmosphere at the Vic so the more fans we get the merrier in my eyes !!

The Watford way thing in my view does not and never has existed.
For example everytime the ball comes anywhere near the goal at the Rookery end people stand up not caring if those behind them are little kids, short people, old people, partially disabled or whatever.
In that respect as in most other respects we are little
different to other football crowds and it is pure fantasy to suggest otherwise.
The Watford crowd is often apathetic and if we are to make genuine progress ( particularly now we have Italian owners) it would help the team and encourage the owners if the supporters were able to forget the Watford way nonesense and generate more enthusiasm and passion ( except in the upper Rous of course).
Maybe we could do so in a loud but good natured and humourous way, now that really would be something original.

Chamberlain is a legend! End of!
anyone that disrespects Alec has surely forgotten the 8-7 game v B'ham....

No.
I totally agree and so it appears does everyone else. When he ran around a lot he always reminded me of a boy in a playground pretending to be an aeroplane.

Absolutely spot on Cliff.
Remember a packed Rookery against Liverpool (1970) and the roar that came from it. Got me hooked as a little boy, so when people say the Watford way, what exactly is that? I liked it the way it used to be, not this pontificating about how we are somehow holier than thou. This is Football, it's tribal ( in a good way) its a way for working people to vent the pent up BS of the week.

Yep Chamberlain has to move on if Watford are to prosper. He had idea how to warm up Tomas K on TK's first game in goal and it was TK who dictated what he wanted to do with Loach hanging on as a lap dog / ball boy. Absolutely pathetic ..... and did he turn Scott L around NO. Time for the exit door ....
Just a pity about Head of Medical - very shortsighted just as they start pre season as he knows the squad! Lets hope the head of conditioning remains ....

Well, having been away and out of touch with the comings and goings of our once family friendly club, I return to read the latest euphoria erupting.
I know I will be in the minority but I do not see this as many do on here.
Lets take a look at recent events, GT decides to walk away stating for more other pressing reasons. It was also known that he was not a fan of baz and did not trust his integrity for our the club.
Its also a fact that Baz could not fulfil his commitment to WFC when the next payment was due, to ensure we could continue and honor our creditors etc.
GT does not agree to the methods that Baz wants to keep face to ensure the club keeps afloat.
GT jumps ship as stated and Baz attempts to raid the safe where season ticket money is being kept and as we all know......... In comes the old bill and he threatens to sue all and sundry for his misdemeanour's! Now this is where it gets a little bit shady, GT does not agree to Baz plan B, The Pozzo's as potential buyers!
Now, I am not at liberty to comment on this and I hope that one day very soon, GT will.
My conclusion to the takeover is that our club will never be the same again with lots of tears to come along the way!

Let's all accept that everyone is entitled to their view and others may disagree with them but that's no need to start hurling insults at them, surely we're all more grown up than that even if you don't believe the "Watford Way" exists. Great post from Frankie Frazer though.

It was Chamberlain that was coaching Foster when he first got into the England squad. It was Chamberlain that was coaching the supposedly rubbish Scott Loach when he got the England squad too. Add that to the fact that Alex Ferguson seems to think he's a safe bet for United's loaned out goalkeepers would suggest that actually the people that keep retaining Alec know more than those on here!

So if I read right Chamberlain has to go because Loach was poor last season? Blimey I bet you lot will vote Labour back in even though they caused the financial mess were in, in the first place because the Tories have to clean up their mess now and people don't like it, it's the Tories fault now! Open your eyes Alec was not only a great goalie he is a great coach as well and best of all he told fatty McPie to bugger off so unlike some he is loyal!

I always get to the home games over an hour before kick off and have become more and more frustrated with the warm up routine for the goalkeepers each week, it doesn't stretch them and looks pointless.

However with that said, even if that is down to Alec Chamberlain, it pales into insignificance compared to the massive contribution he has made to our club over the years. I always felt comfortable when he played in goal and I well remember some great encounters he played in. Since he quit playing he has been an integral part of our backroom staff and has been the vital link between different managers. He played under GT and fully understands the 'Watford Way' and long may he continue to be involved.

Alec has been an ambassador for our club and is held in high regard in the game, he's also a thoroughly nice guy and one of the few left with a genuine link to some of our past. As much as I have always liked Sean Dyche, from his playing days through to manager and I'm still gutted that he hasn't had the chance of a second season with us after the superb effort in the first, I'd be even more dissapointed if Alec Chamberlain went.

maybe GT knew of the pending takeover and felt the club was moving in the right direction and therefore felt comfortable stepping down. Baz raiding the safe was the last act of a desperate man who knew his days were numbered....
