MILLWALL’S players will only be allowed to discuss personal matters on Twitter after Alan Dunne was fined £2,000 by the FA yesterday over comments the defender retweeted on the site.
Dunne was one of two players sent off in the 6-0 defeat by Birmingham last month and afterwards retweeted a fan’s comment which was less than flattering about the display of referee Jon Moss, prompting an improper conduct charge and yesterday’s fine.
Manager Kenny Jackett said after the home FA Cup tie with Southampton on January 28 a letter had been sent to all of the squad warning them about what they say on Twitter but the boss confirmed today there will not be an outright ban from the popular website.
He told News Shopper: “Certainly professionally it is a ban.
“Where they are personally I would hope some restraint is shown but professionally it is a big learning curve because it is a new dimension.
“To some degree Alan has been made an example of but I will vouch for him because Alan Dunne is a very solid and reliable lad who has been unfortunate in these circumstances.
“Twitter is a new thing and sometimes individual opinions can overlap on what is best for the club and what is best for the team, but I’m sure it will all settle down.
“It certainly aids reporters in getting individual opinions all of the time.”
