CHARLTON last week snapped up a second international defender on a pre-contract basis. South American defender Gonzalo Sorondo, who spent last season on loan with the Addicks, has joined US World Cup squad member Cory Gibbs at The Valley. The 26-year-old's contract with Italian Serie A giants Internazionale ends in June.

FAIR Play League winners Charlton will learn on June 4 whether they will compete in next season's UEFA Cup. The Addicks' reward for their fair play during 2005/06, which includes the number of red and yellow cards received and respect shown towards the opposition, is a place in a draw alongside 10 other teams from across Europe for two extra UEFA Cup slots. Should Charlton be selected, they would be entered into the first qualifying round on July 13 and 27. The Addicks also won the Behaviour of the Public Fair Play League, which assesses clubs' fans.

ADDICKS first-team coach Mervyn Day and assistant manager Keith Peacock last week joined former manager Alan Curbishley in leaving Charlton. Plc chairman Richard Murray confirmed: "Following the departure of Alan Curbishley, we intend to reorganise the football management structure and to bring in a new management team to take the club forward." The club has already appointed ex-agent Andrew Mills in a general manager - football capacity to help with player signings, and announced last week that a shortlist of potential new managers had been devised but that no more details would be released at this stage.

ONE season may have finished, but there are only three months until 2006/07 and existing season-ticket holders at The Valley have until the end of May to secure their current seat. Seats, the majority of which have been reduced in price, are available from just £99 under-11s, £125 under-18s, £225 under-21s and £325 adults. Get more details from 0871 226 1905 or at cafc.co.uk, and fans can also renew online. There is no price increase after the May 31 deadline, but existing fans' seats will no longer be reserved. The Valley ticket office will be open from 8am-6pm on weekdays and 9am-1pm on Saturdays during the close season.

PROMISING goalkeeper Darren Randolph has signed a two-year extension to his Charlton contract, taking him to summer 2009. Randolph was named the club's young player of the year this season after helping loan club Accrington Stanley to the Conference championship and making the Premiership substitutes' bench twice against Newcastle United in February and Manchester United this month. Winger Alistair John and striker Michael Carvill, both 18, have also put pen-to-paper on professional contracts until June 2007.

DESPITE his teammates calling him 'boss', Chris Powell has ruled out suggestions he could be in line to succeed Alan Curbishley in charge of the Addicks. "The boys have been calling me uncle all year, now they're starting to call me boss," said the 36-year-old left-back last week. "It's way too early for something like that and it's too early because I still want to play."

THE season of Charlton's women's team ended in disappointment and third place on Sunday following a 1-0 defeat to runners-up rivals Everton.

Meanwhile, Josanne Potter and Casey Stoney featured as England beat Hungary 2-0 in their latest World Cup qualifier last Thursday night.
