CHARLTON could lose four members of their squad within the next month, depending on what happens between now and the loan deadline on Thursday.

The Addicks have loaned goalkeeper Carl Ikeme from Wolves, right-back Elliot Omozusi from Fulham and strikers Akpo Sodje and David Mooney from Sheffield Wednesday and Reading respectively.

All of the deals are due to expire shortly, and unless extensions are agreed upon with the players’ parents clubs soon, manager Phil Parkinson faces a race against time to find replacements ahead of deadline.

Irishman Mooney is happy to extend his stay at the Valley, saying: “I’m here until next Tuesday after the Brighton game but hopefully it’ll be extended.

“I’ve just got to wait and see what happens because I think the loan window shuts this week so obviously I need to get it sorted.

“It’s one of those things where I’m not playing at Reading so if I can come here and do well during the loan period and Charlton want to sign me then obviously I’d talk it through with my family and see what we do.”

Assistant manager Tim Breacker admitted that as of the 4-2 win over Bristol Rovers on Tuesday, the loanees’ immediate futures had yet to be settled.

He said: “Hopefully we can keep Carl all season, but we’ll have to wait and see.

“I don’t know what the latest situation is or whether we can extend it but obviously we’ll have to look at Robbie, who’s getting near to fitness as well.

“We’d love to extend David and Akpo’s loans as they’ve both done well for us but it’s down to their clubs, we don’t really know what’s happening in terms of their injuries.

“For the first month Akpo cannot be recalled but if it goes into a second month they can recall him quickly, and with the deadline coming up on Thursday this could be a vital time for a lot of teams in terms of their squad.

“We’ve got most of our bodies back though we’ve got one or two niggles that hopefully will be back and we’ll have a fit squad for that period.”

A new name was added to the ‘niggles’ list during the Rovers game in Kelly Youga, who had to be replaced after 23 minutes with a knee injury.

Breacker was hopeful that the damage was minimal, however, explaining: “Kelly got caught on his knee but we’re hoping it’s not anything terrible, he’s having a scan in the morning.

“We think it’s more of a bruise than a twist so we’ll see what the scan says but hopefully it’ll settle down quite quickly.”
