Watford's John-Joe O'Toole has medical at Sheffield United

The likelihood of John-Joe O’Toole moving to Sheffield United increased with the news the Watford midfielder had a medical with the Blades yesterday.

O’Toole is understood to have been in Sheffield yesterday to have a medical after the two clubs reportedly agreed a fee.

The Republic of Ireland Under-21 international, who spent the end of last season on loan with United, could be the third Hornet to join the Blades this summer.

Lee Williamson has already moved for around £500,000 and Watford have accepted a bid of £1.8 million for talisman Tommy Smith.

Sheffield United manager Kevin Blackwell has confirmed the club are in discussions with O’Toole, Smith and Bristol City’s Michael McIndoe.

Blackwell told BBC Radio Sheffield: "We are in discussions with all three and I am sure fans will agree they are all quality players.

"We have to build a squad that will give us more options next season."

Good to see that the club is keeping us informed as they said they would, the same as Sheff Utd are doing to their supporters.
how much to go until we're in credit now?
Undisclosed I bet!

Good luck to JJ if he goes, out club just seems to be crumbling.

IF TOMMY SMITH GOES TO READING, I WILL NOT GET MY SEASON TICKET, AS IVE NOT GOT IT YET.

That person there is scum, so even if they offer the same £1.8m then we should turn it down, if the directors want to ever please their loyal supporters!

Yes BUT CROSSED ANYONES MIND that the 1.8m pound fee for Smith includes John Joe as part of that deal we are not being told the "agreed" fee ,let us know Watford please ? the headline of smith off for 1.8million seemed palletable BUT if includes john joe as i have heard well !!!!!

So thats £1.8m for smith, £500k for Williamson, £500k for R****rs, £225k for Robinson = £3m plus whatever we get for O'Toole. Two players in for a reported £25k. As long as the board lets MM spend as least 1m and we start to see major improvements in the stadium ( ie they knock down the East stand and start building ) i will be quite happy with the Russo's. If none of the above happens then i feel we have just have another chairman that don't give 2 s**ts about the club. Correct me if i am wrong but redevelopment of the ground is a must for our future, as when we are able to compete in the transfer market again when showing a new player round our ground what would make then want to come to us over clubs like Leicester, Coventry, Reading , Swansea, etc.... all with excellent stadiums and more importantly give us Watford fans a stadium to be proud of which would also encourage a new generation of supporters.

Looking forward to 2009-2010 and MM has my 100% support

Tom seems to be taking his time...not so keen perhaps...waiting for a better club nearer home or waiting for Judas to cough up the cash.

He's turned Sheff Utd down.Wants to stay closer to home.
Reading now favourites to sign him unfortunately

Do we have a mascot? I wonder how much money he'd fetch? O'Toole is too good to let go - but the Russos will take any momey that is offered for anyone. This is the most bankrupt board imaginable. The Russos want publicity. They have it - for not having the resources to run a Championship side.

Well only if they offer 1.8 million ofcourse (I presume)

Feff - I don't think they have the funds and were hoping somebody would come in to help out.

At least they stood their ground on the Smith issue and didn't take the first offer going.

Feel if we were that close to administration Elton would dip into his pocket but we cannot rely on him forever.

well well well

good morning flock

i am afraid to say that we will have to get used to playing championship football this coming season with a lot less regulars.

the team this season is going to virtually unrecognisable from the one that finished last one.

the fire sale has yet to get going : we can confidently say thananx and goodbye to; tamas priskin -- his agent has been keen on making a little money ever since last january window and the onlty way he can do that is either an improved contract (not a snowball is hell's chance) or a move...expect him to move to a second string premier club or abroard for approx £2.5 m

next to go will be jay demit ... expect a move to a similar clur as tamas a n a fee of £1m to £1.5m

third one to go when he turns down a renewed contract will be jobi macanuff expect 500 - 750 k bid from possibly one of his old clubs or a fellow possibly newly promoted club

two long shots loach but i think he will stay for one more season and marriappa

again i think he will aso stay

when all the above biz is completed then i believe we will start sighing loanees ...i just hope that this all takes place before too much of preseason has gone

well thats quite enough from me i must put the finishinh touches to my sermon...i will say something for the new deaconess she is remarkably good for finishing touches ...u wouldnt think a ex nun would have had that sort of experience ...still hey ho life goes on

keep the faith

vOr. You are the expert on keeping people informed, supporting liars and spin merchants. On the Ball, as KA said at the time we needed £10m plus subsequent losses less wahtever has already been raised. Keep up. It was all true although GS and MA tried to suppress the truth through bullying legal threats using club money. We are reaping what they sowed, and that includes Wilson and Hoof. Jim and Vince, your best is good enough for me. Trying to save and not expoit our club. Honest men!

We are talking about honesty and openness from the board. TS should do the same. BR seems very confident about TS desire to work with him again. How can he say that unless he has had some back door discussions with the player. TS should put his cards on the table and tell the fans he wants a transfer to work with BR. TIf TS wants to go, he shouldn't hide behind the board, he should be honest to all his fans.

FELLOW HORNETS, SOME FACTS FOR YOU:

I SPOKE TO JOHN JOE O'TOOLE AND HE SAID AS FAR AS HE IS AWARE HE IS STAYING AT WATFORD (this was 2-3 weeks ago and I appreciate this may have changed)

MY SOURCES WHO KNOW TOMMY SMITHS DAD SAY THAT HE WANTS TO STAY AND THAT THE CLUB ARE LOOKING TO CASH IN ON HIM AS WE'RE SKINT

TAMAS HAS BEEN REPORTED AS SAYING HE WANTS TO GO TO READING BUT I'LL THINK YOU WILL FIND HE SAID HE WOULD BE HAPPY TO PLAN UNDER BRENDON RODGERS AGAIN BUT HE ALSO SAID HE PLAYED WITH MALKAY AND WOULD BE HAPPY TO STAY AT WATFORD

THE RUSSO'S ARE DECENT BLOKES, MY MATE MET HIM IN THE SERVICE STATION ON THE WAY TO NORWICH AWAY AND HE DIDN'T HAVE A TICKET AND JIMMY RUSSO GAVE HIM HIS MOBILE NUMBER AND SAID TO GIVE HIM A BELL IF HE COULDN'T GET A TICKET AND THAT HE WOULD HELP HIM OUT... SO FOR THE PPL SLAGGING OFF THE RUSSO'S I ASK YOU ONE QUESTION, WOULD SIMPSON DO SOMETHING LIKE THAT? NO, RUSSO'S ARE GOOD MEN AND HAVE THE CLUB AND THE FANS AT HEART.

worthing_hornet says...

imuskett - it's not as if we are the only club ever to let a young player who MIGHT do good things in the future go relatively cheaply. There have been plenty of incidences of young players 'who will be the big thing' someday going for ludicrous money and not delivering. You could argue even Ashley hasn't delivered for the senior england side yet and we got nearly 10mil for him. JJOT is not playing anywhere near Ashley's standard when we sold him so we cannot expect any where near as much. We cannot hold onto players that may earn us money in the future. What would you prefer, that we play him in the side all season, he fails to deliver, is hated by the fans, and then still sold for peanuts? If the gaffer doesn't think he can get the most out of him, and it is better to sell, then that's his call. If he goes and bangs in 30 goals for Utd, then we can point fingers. He scored 1 in his loan spell if I recall correctly?

Maybe JJOT's medical involved a pub crawl through Sheffield.
Thats quite a lot of pubs!!
Give the lad a chance.

Presumeably, TS is still discussing 'terms' i.e. do Sheff U mind awfully selling him in 6 months at a knock down price to Reading. JJOT has been commented on above so I'll say no more (since it may just be rumour :) )The club are presumeably in the dark as much as we are, until the player and his agent say yes to the offer on the table. All the club has done is accept the price offered for the player, they aren't negotiating his new terms for him. (I know that's obvious to all, but I'm going to sya it anyway - so there!)
