10:22am Monday 13th October 2008

Cheam Hockey Club’s men’s team staged a remarkable comeback to grab a 3-3 draw in Saturday’s tie against HAC in Surrey Division One.

The contest seemed to be over as they trailed 3-0 at half time but a superb second half performance saw them fight back and claim their first point of the season.

Excellent reverse stick strikes from Andy Wright and Richard Eggleton got Cheam back into the game. In a tense finish, Oliver Perez managed to force home an equaliser with a deflected shot.

The second team continued their 100 per cent record with a 3-1 win over Guildford in Surrey Open Division Four. Two goals from Stuart Lawrence and a goal from captain James Mantle helped seal another win.

The third team lost 3-2 to Croydon in Surrey Open Division Eight. Graham Head scored two but Cheam were edged out in a close game.

Meanwhile, Cheam Ladies earned another excellent win in Surrey Division One, beating Wimbledon 2-1. Louise Pank gave them the lead only for Wimbledon to equalise with a scrambled effort. The game was finely balanced but a powerful strike from the top of the D by Dot Hare won the game for Cheam.

The second team were beaten 4-0 against a strong Tulse Hill & Dulwich team, and the third team were also defeated – losing 1-0.
