SNOOKER
THERE are many snooker players who have dreamed of making a century break, but for an 11-year-old from Leyton that has just become a reality.
Peter 'The Potter' Devlin, who attends Holy Family School made his 102 break in the Essex Snooker Tournament at Rileys, Walthamstow.
A tournament Devlin won, beating players with a lot more experience in the game than he has, although it seems the break proved his real highlight of the event.
"I got really excited about making 100 - it was a big step for me," claimed the youngster who is being tipped as a Ronnie O'Sullivan of the future.
Devlin has only been receiving tuition for five months.
Coach Josh Raja said: "He has a natural gift, hits the ball so true I've never seen anyone his age like it."
Although only young, Peter has been attracting interest from snooker legend O'Sullivan himself. The Rocket is Devlin's hero and Raja believes he is another World number one in the making in his own right. He said: "He is the natural heir to Ronnie, it is only a matter of time."
The Potter has been playing snooker since the age of two when his dad built him a table. He loves the game and practices at least three times a week at Rileys. He said: "In the future I'd definitely like to turn pro. My goal is to be number one. I'm a very attacking player but I do need to work on my safety more, although it is improving." Devlin has also set himself short-term targets and hopes to be victorious in a tournament in West Ham.
He said: "In the next year I'd love to make bigger breaks and be more consistent with that. My goal is to win a tournament at Upton Park, that is a big one."Devlin is looking for sponsorship to help with travel costs and tournament fees.
