Third XI Premier Division

Six sixes in the final over from Paul Murphy was not enough to see Woodford Wells Thirds past Buckhurst Hill Thirds as the two sides ultimately drew.

Batting first, Wells looked to have built an impenetrable lead thanks to Mark Webb (148) and Murphy (104 not out).

Eventually declaring on 370 for four, Wells unsurprisingly found themselves up against a resolute Hill line-up who were already playing for the draw.

Ash Mohammed (50), David Rofe (48) and Qaiser Khan (51) made a strong start for the visitors but their example was not followed by those who followed and only Joe Murphy (26) and Daniel Isaacs (26) made double figures from there.

Deepak Singha (four for 32) could only restrict the away team, who closed on 226 for eight.

A simply stunning seven for 17 from Corrie Brand helped Wanstead and Snaresbrook Thirds batter Shenfield Thirds by 200 runs.

Batting first, Wanstead showed little sign of what was to come after losing both openers early on.

However, 74 from Abhay Bygott and a further 50 from Jay Williams helped Wanstead reach a total of 260 all out.

What followed was incredible. Brand (seven for 17) and Sahil Prabhakar (three for 38) tore into Shenfield from the outset and skittled their hosts for just 60 runs in 25 overs to claim a stunning victory.

Third XI Division One

A ton from Toqeer Ahmad was not enough to steer Wanstead and Snaresbrook Fourths to victory as they drew with Chingford Thirds.

Ahmad hit 104 and was assisted by fellow opener Danny Mead (73) and D.Richardson (72) at three as Wanstead declared on 293 for three.

However, despite their declaration the hosts were unable to remove stubborn Chingford, who clung onto their final two wickets to draw.

Ameetab Ashok (68) and Nishant Varshney (50) top scored for the visitors, with Graeme Webb’s four for 56 the stand-out bowling return.

Seventy-six from Ali Khan was not enough as South Woodford Thirds lost by seven wickets at Hornchurch Thirds.

Khan (76) opened but his lead was not followed and although Wesley Hutchins (31) and Arshad Rehman (28) chipped in before declaring on 201 for nine, Hornchurch were swift in their reply.

Rehman took two for 47 but could not stem the tide as Hornchurch cantered to 204 for three.

Loughton Thirds were unable to bowl out a durable Chelmsford Fourths side which held on to claim a draw.

Kieran Scarlioli (64) began brightly enough with the bat for Loughton but it was not until the middle order that the visitors truly began to make headway.

Michael Bridges (55) and Jonathan Almond (63), batting at six and seven, nudged the hosts towards to 243 for seven before deciding to declare.

Chelmsford’s reply centred around 96 from number three Matthew Davis. A further knock of 75 from Phil Arnold kept the home side in contention but they were unable to reach the required score and finished on 241 for eight.

Third XI Division Two

Fives and Heronians Thirds failed to build on their opening-day victory as they were well beaten by seven wickets at Billericay Thirds.

Abbas Mirza (55) provided fleeting hope with a good knock but although Aqeel Ilias put on 37 soon after, Fives were only able to put up a total of 165 for eight for Billericay to chase.

And chase they did, Andrew Smith’s 55 the key knock as the home side sprinted to 169 for nine in 33.1 overs.

Third XI Division Three

Bikram Singh took four for 16 as South Woodford Fourths breezed to an 80-run win over South Loughton Fourths.

Inserted, South Woodford were initially unconvincing with the bat and stumbled towards a below-par total until Nabil Shah and Singh came to the crease.

Knocks of 73 and 65 respectively moved the South Woodford total along at pace and a generous 35 extras guided the hosts to a total of 257 all out, despite Dominic Newlyn’s four for 48.

Loughton opener Mark Redpath made 75 but worked his way through a spate of partners as the visitors came up short in their run chase, eventually dismissed for 177 with Singh to the fore.

Woodford Green Thirds breezed to victory by eight wickets against Westcliff-on-Sea Thirds but were hardly required to be at their best.

After Chris Masters (five for 20) had helped account for the Westcliff line-up for just 55, Woodford Green set about reaching the minimal target with plenty to spare.

Farooq Khushi opened with 35 not out and was supported by Javaad Hussain (13), Gisli Bergmann (4) and Richard Smith (2).

West Essex Thirds were off the boil with the bat and ended up falling to a five-wicket loss at the hands of Hutton Fourths.

Inserted, West Essex openers Farzan Shabir (21) and Hamzah Wajid (26) struggled to get runs on the board and that remained a constant throughout the innings as the visitors reached just 106 for eight in 43 overs.

Hutton then chased that total down with minimal fuss, surviving two Wajid wickets to make it to 107 for five.
