Woodford Green with Essex Ladies’ Tiffany Porter set a world-leading mark in Florida, whilst Dan Awde won on his first 400m outing of the year.

Racing at the NTC Pure Athletics Sprint Elite Meet in Clermont, Florida, European Champion Porter, pictured, took advantage of the warm weather and following winds, first winning her 100m hurdles heat in 12.67 (+1.9), and later the final in a world-leading mark of 12.56 (+1.8).

Glasgow 4x400m relay gold medalist Awde raced for the first time this year over 400m and opened with a victory in 46.20.

Another Commonwealth medallist, Mark Dry, shone at Loughborough in the Alan Bertram Memorial Open meeting, where he won the hammer with 71.96m, ahead of Andy Frost who was second in 66.94m.

In the women’s event, Lucy Marshall was in good form with 56.15m to take third.

Negotiating the winds at Woodford, where the sprints saw strengths of up to -5mps, was not easy but in the discus it helped Devon Douglas to an early season victory with a distance of 50.50m.

Paul Martelletti has joined Woodford for the summer under the Higher Competition rule, which allows an athlete to join another club for a specific senior track and field league competition in which their club of origin does not compete, and he won the Manchester Marathon in 2.17.47.
