Gibraltar international goalkeeper Jordan Perez is travelling to England today to spend a week training with Wycombe Wanderers.

The 28-year-old, who has seven caps for his country, has never played football professionally and works as a fireman in day-to-day life.

His current side Lions Gibraltar FC play in the country’s top league and claimed on their Facebook page that the spell with Blues came about after discussions between manager Jeff Wood and former Wycombe director Alan Parry.

Included in the post Perez is quoted as saying he instructed Wood to help him look for a professional club in England as he looks to regain his spot in the national team.

He said: “Initially Championship side Ipswich Town were more than willing to take me onboard and arrangements were being made, but a few weeks back League 2 Wycombe Wanderers also showed an interest and I saw this as an opportunity at the same time.

“They are currently at the top of the table, promisingly looking for promotion and at present only have one goalkeeper. If they were to be promoted they would definitely be looking to recruit another goalkeeper possibly two.

“Many might think my time to become a professional has gone and chances are very slight, arguably this could be true, but once you lose hope you might as well retire and I am not in that frame of mind yet.

“I have had trials with professional clubs in the past and I know what is expected of me, this time round I have much more experience and see myself in my best form so far.

“I will make the most of this trip, taking us much as possible onboard and will be training hard for a week at a professional level.”
