Bromley’s march towards the title continued last night as they overcame a half-time deficit to record a 2-1 victory over Sutton United at Gander Green Lane.

The result extends the Ravens’ lead at the top of the Conference South table to four points with two games in hand over their closest rivals Boreham Wood.

But it could have been a different story had Sutton taken a couple of their first half chances.

Sutton showed their intentions as early as the fourth minute when Dan Fitchett forced a good save out of his former colleague Alan Julian.

The keeper did just enough to put the winger off, following a penetrating run and cross by Jamie Collins, while Bromley’s custodian saved well from Craig Dundas following sloppy defending.

Bromley’s only shot on target in the first half came on 19 minutes when Ali Fuseini’s quick free-kick put Louis Dennis in on goal, but Sutton keeper Aaron Howe spread himself well to chest it behind for a corner.

Bedsente Gomis went close with a shot on the turn and Kieron Forbes shot wide from a good position before the inevitable happened, and the home side deservedly opened the scoring in the 28th minute.

Gomis lifted a close range effort into the roof of the net following a cross from the right, which Julian spilled.

Micky Spillane’s header went just wide moments later and Dale Binns went on a 50 yard unchallenged run before being denied by Julian just before the interval.

Bromley looked sharper after the break and, as the half progressed, began to create a few chances.

But it needed a huge slice of good fortune for them to equalise in the 71st minute.

Joe Anderson sent a high lob into the goalmouth for a routine save by Howe, but the keeper held the ball high underneath the crossbar, only to somehow drop it onto Jamie Slabber’s head to rebound into the net from less than a yard from goal.

Fitchett should have restored Sutton’s lead on 75 minutes when he shot wide of an open goal, a miss which later proved costly.

Bradley Goldberg lobbed the keeper only to see his effort come crashing back off the bar before Bromley secured the points in the 85th minute.

Moses Ademola’s shot was blocked and Callum McNaughton’s follow up was deflected for a corner, from which Slabber bundled over the line from close range.

Goldberg was denied by a point-black save from Howe after Ademola had chased and retrieved a long cross to the byline to set up the opportunity.

From Ademola’s inswinging corner, Spillane headed off the line.

And in injury time, Slabber set up Goldberg but he was too slow to get his shot away, and was robbed in front of goal by Kevin Amankwaah as Bromley saw out a victory which had seemed most unlikely for the first hour of the game.
