An 88th minute Moses Ademola winner sent Bromley back to the top of the table with a 2-1 triumph at Chelmsford City.

Already without the services of car crash victim Pierre Joseph-Dubois and the suspended Rob Swaine, Bromley suffered further blows in the week when Anthony Cook sustained serious injury in another car accident.

Ben May was ruled out because of a broken bone in his foot, while Jamie Slabber was ill.

Recalled to the starting line-up was Ademola and Callum McNaughton, while the reliable Danny Waldren donned the No 9 shirt.

Added to these problems was the fact a fierce wind was blowing the length of the Chelmsford pitch, which made control and distribution very difficult for both sides.

While the hosts, with the wind at their backs, enjoyed plenty of possession, it was Bromley who created the first three chances on goal.

Reece Prestedge’s 30-yarder dipped just over the bar, Moses Ademola’s cross was plucked from the foot of Louis Dennis by Chelmsford keeper Tom Lovelock and Dennis’ teasing cross was put behind by Michael Toner with Lovelock beaten.

Chelmsford rallied and the home side’s Harry Hickford shot into the side-netting after rounding Joe Anderson before Bromley’s keeper Alan Julian saved Michael Cheek’s header.

A long throw in was headed back across goal where Mark Hughes’s scissor-kick just missed the target, while Cheek met a searching ball from Jack Bridge at the back post, only to nod wide.

And the half closed with Leon Redwood’s free-kick from the edge of the area going narrowly wide of the post.

Bromley were more determined after the break following a much below par first 45 minutes, forcing a number of corners in the opening stages.

McNaughton headed wide and then Marvin Ekpiteta almost gifted Bromley an own goal by deflecting Anderson’s cross, scraping the post as it went wide of goal.

The visitors opened the scoring on 53 minutes as Ademola broke quickly from defence to spray a pass wide to Ugo Udoji.

Udoji drove forward before providing an inch-perfect cross for Ademola to flash a header into the far corner of the net.

Chelmsford were reduced to 10 men in the 63rd minute when Hughes received his second yellow card in as many minutes.

As Bromley looked to press home the numerical advantage, Lovelock tipped over Bradley Goldberg’s effort following good work from Anderson.

The keeper then did well to parry Goldberg’s shot on the turn, but there was no Bromley team-mate to capitalise on the loose ball.

Chelmsford thought they had levelled the scores on 76 minutes after Michael Toner headed Joe Ward’s corner past Julian, but Udoji miraculously headed off the line from under the bar.

Waldren went close to making it 2-0 from an acute angle, but with seven minutes remaining Chelmsford drew level.

A corner from the left was collected by Bridge, who knocked the ball back across goal for Toner to equalise with a simple tap in at the back post.

Lovelock made a splendid save from Ali Fuseini before Bromley grabbed the winner in the last minute.

A long goal-kick from Julian picked out Dennis, who crossed for Ademola to wrong-foot Lovelock with a close range header.

The game ended on a sour note as Chelmsford were reduced to nine men in injury time when Hickford received a straight red card for a dangerous tackle on Udoji.

After a lengthy hold up for, firstly, several players from both sides having a set two, and then treatment for Udoji, before the full-back was substituted.

In addition, Chelmsford’s manager was also dismissed, presumably for talking out of turn over the red card.
