Wanderers manager Gareth Ainsworth hopes to have Matt McClure and Marcus Bean fit and ready to face Tranmere on Tuesday night.

McClure’s omission from the starting XI came as a surprise considering his excellent display, which featured a goal, against Carlisle the previous weekend, before Ainsworth revealed post match that the striker had picked up a knock.

Midfielder Bean was absent from the squad completely after also picking up an injury, and the Blues boss was not prepared to take a chance on either player against Stevenage.

He said: “Matty tweaked his hamstring. We had a fitness test before the game and the decision by myself, the medical team and Matty was that he wasn’t 100 per cent and it was a risk to start him, which is a shame because I thought he was brilliant last week.

“Marcus Bean tweaked his knee, so again we have to have this no risk policy. I’m not going to risk any players, we’ve got too small a squad for that.

“Obviously Aaron Pierre has his two-game suspension, he’s served one of them and I’ll like it when he comes back as well.

“Marcus could be back for Tuesday, and Matty. We’ll be monitoring them closely, we’ve got a long trip up there, hopefully not as long as Carlisle, but we’ll be ready to go again up in the north west.”
