Leyton Orient boss Fabio Liverani accused his team of playing without guts after their 4-1 defeat to Scunthorpe United but insists he won't resign despite not having the backing of the players.

The O's plummeted to a new low after being thrashed at Brisbane Road to leave them second bottom in League One. Liverani berated his players in an explosive press conference after the game but is refusing to walk away from his position.

Liverani, speaking via a translator, said: "I am not leaving a sinking ship and I will never resign from this job. I will speak to the owner during the week and I want to be clear about one thing. We are not changing and if we sink we sink all together with the players and the staff at the end of the season.

"I never asked a player to play for me. The players are mature enough to play for themselves and the club and not for me."

The Italian began by attacking his players for not supporting him and being disruptive since he took on the job in December.

Liverani said: "This is the worst game since I've been in charge. We played without guts, heart, courage or anything.

"Since I arrived I've heard a lot of players moaning. There's always someone who wants to have a say on everything but then it's not shown on the pitch.

"The problem I see is most of the players come and complain and knock at my door asking for explanations on why they don't play but then they don't show their values on the pitch."

Liverani continued: "From now on things are changing and there are no more days off during the week and there will de double training.

"I would have changed 11 players today if I could. As I said to the players we have reached the bottom. But one thing I've learned in my life is when you're at the bottom you can either stay there or only get better."
