Wanderers have been warned to ignore the form book as freefalling former giants Portsmouth arrive in town.

Pompey are winless in eight and have only taken maximum points on five occasions from their last 27 matches.

They haven't picked up an away win since August despite boasting the biggest budget in the division.

Fans called for manager Andy Awford to go after their latest bad result, as they were defeated at home by Southend United on Saturday.

But Wanderers boss Gareth Ainsworth warned there's potential in their large squad to get their underperforming season belatedly off and running.

He said: "They were up there amongst the favourites to get promoted, but they haven't clicked.

"They have the potential to click and to be a strong side. We can't underestimate this side at all.

"Mansfield were a team fighting for their lives and we saw how that will affect a team. They gave a good account of themselves. Our defence, as usual, was very solid.

"Portsmouth have had a week of turmoil with a bad result last week. They might want to get away and play without the pressures of playing at home. We are going to have to be on our game on Saturday if we want to get the points."

Striker Paul McCallum is suspended after getting sent off against Southend, with veteran Patrick Agyemang likely to be brought into the squad to replace him.

Jack Whatmough could also be brought back into the squad, with under-fire Awford having no major injury headaches to contend with.
