Gareth Ainsworth hopes his side can take advantage of home comforts tomorrow after having to contend with two awful pitches in the past fortnight.

The surface at Bury two weeks ago resembled a skating rink, while the players struggled to deal with a boggy pitch at Mansfield on Saturday.

It's been three weeks since Wanderers' last home match and Ainsworth said it would be a welcome relief for his players to be able to play their usual brand of passing football at Adams Park against Portsmouth.

Blues won each of their last two games on home soil more convincingly than the 1-0 scoreline would suggest, and Ainsworth is looking for more of the same.

He said: "I'm looking to get back home for the pitch more than anything. The Adams Park pitch has its problems but nothing like we've had in the last couple of weeks - they've been mudbaths that we've played on.

"It's not just the standard of football that's affected, it's the injuries that could potentially be caused.

"It's nice to get off those pitches and get into something a bit firmer. It sometimes can be a bit too firm and bouncy - I'm asking for the perfect pitch, somewhere in the middle.

"We'll look to carry on where we left off against Hartlepool and York and got two good wins over those."

The Adams Park surface is also getting a longer rest between games now Wasps no longer play there.

Ainsworth said: "I think the pitch has taken a battering for a good 10-15 years with the rugby and the football. The pitch does have an impact on the way you play, but no excuses, we play some good stuff at home. I'm hoping to get the ball down again and play some entertaining, attacking football on Saturday against Portsmouth."
