Paddy McCarthy has already attracted plenty of loan interest from Championship clubs, although Neil Warnock says Bolton aren’t necessarily in pole position to sign the defender.

Newspaper stories had claimed the Irishman was heading for a reunion with former boss Dougie Freedman at the Reebok.

However, that is news to current Eagles chief Warnock.

He said: “I only read about it in the paper.

“I’ve already had a couple of other Championship clubs that would have him tomorrow, so there isn’t going to be a shortage of takers for people like that.”

McCarthy might not be the only fringe playing heading out of SE25, although Warnock is keen to hold fire on any departures until after next Wednesday evening’s League Cup tie.

The boss revealed: “I’m sure one or two will be leaving on loan after the Newcastle game, but I want to see them all really if I can in what promises to be a really good game.

“We can lend them out for three months but have them back after 28 days, and with the international breaks in October and November they’re only going to miss three or four games and then we can have them back at minute’s notice.

“At the same time they can keep them fit by playing so it’s good thing we can do this from now until January.

“If we need them back after month they are then match-fit ready.

“It’s hard when you’re playing week in, week out to keep that sharpness.”
