Charlton Athletic were the visitors to Vicarage Road for Alec Chamberlain's testimonial game.

Marlon King scored the Hornets' goal in a 2-1 defeat on his first appearance in Watford colours at the ground.

The game also featured the only senior Vicarage Road appearance in a Hornets shirt of some of the less successful summer signings; Spanish full-back Sietes, Australian centre-back Adam Griffiths and Brazilian striker Junior whose contract was subsequently cancelled on the discovery that he was ineligible to work in the UK, despite having signed for Walsall three years earlier.
