Watford have confirmed the signing of Blackpool defender Craig Cathcart on a two-year contract.

The Watford Observer reported yesterday that the Hornets would sign the player early this week and the move was confirmed this morning.

Cathcart played 12 times for the Golden Boys under Malky Mackay during a loan spell in 2009 before it was ended prematurely, with the club claiming it was due to a knee injury.

The 25-year-old joined Blackpool the following summer, soon after their promotion to the Premier League, for a reported £350,000 and has remained there since, making 117 appearances during his four-year stay.

Cathcart, who has 18 Northern Ireland caps and can play at centre half and right back, was out of contract this summer.

I hope he proves me wrong and I will support him. But unfortunately he has got to prove the doubters wrong. Which there are many.
Every time he is too scared to go for a header or gets pushed of the ball too easily the doubters will be on his back. It is Human nature and I for one will not be able to help myself. He will be liability and compares well to the previous dross the pozzos have signed previously. e.g Neuton, franchone, brown and yet to prove us wrong belkalem.
If he was a shining light in a poor blackpool team why are we the only team to have come in for him. Obviously no other CHAMPIONSHIP team would touch him with a barge poll. Cathcart is a very lucky lad and has it all to do to win us over,
I just hope this signing doesnt mean we are going to see some of our star names leave. Am beginning to lose faith in NANI and his recruitment policy. Which I dont think there is one.

he has played a lot more championship & a season in the prem!! since he was on loan with us a few seasons back, can play either centre or right back looks like a useful addition to our squad, istill think we still need to strengthen our defence with a couple more experienced central defenders we need to improve our goals against this coming season(watford64 burnley37brighton40 last season) to stand any chance of a top six finish!! so lets have no doubters please!! and all get behind the new signings & the team from the first game be positive, play your part, be loud, and lets just hope the players can make us all proud to be WATFORDFC, supporters

With a defence comprising of Cathorse, Belkalem, Tamas, and Doyley can we REALLY expect solidity and assurance at the back!!!!

Wake up WFC fans. This is defence horriblus, as the Queen might say!

Angella and Exstrand are on their way out, and what is left leaves some very serious defensive questions?????

For crying out loud, give the guy a chance!!! As for berating the Pozzo's we are so much better off with them, then the crook with the red hard hat!! What is wrong with some people, all they see is doom and gloom.....get a life and have some faith. My glass is always half full, sadly yours is always half empty, like the brain cells in your head! We are growing as a club, maybe not at the rate some people expected but it WILL come, just need a little patience.

Forget whether or not he 'was a shining light in a poor Blackpool team' last season, he also started 29 games for Blackpool in 2011-12 when they came 5th in the Championship, 30 games the previous season in the Premiership, and 26 games in 2012-13, as well as the 32 last season.

I didn't rate him when he was at Watford last, as a 19/20 year old with little experience, but to continually judge him on that time rather than giving the guy a chance is ridiculous. He obviously has a bit more about him then the doom mongers on here are giving him credit for

Since his spell on loan at WFC how many of these doubters have seen him play regularly. He held his place in the premiership and in the Championship so he is no mug .Could turn out to be a decent signing, time will tell.

Like all fans id love him to be a good signing........but he is not. He was awful when here last time and blackpool fans I know say he goes missing in big games and shy's away for a big strong centre forward. All these people say stop moaning give him a chance are the same people that said
Liam Henderson scored loads of goals in the reservers give him a chance
Piero Mingioa Has played all pre season games under Zola he will be next star
Joe Garner Zola will make him good for us
Adam Thompson should be given a go
Ross Jenkins is a good player
Mark Yeats is good get off his back
Dale Bennet and Eddie Oshadi should be given a chance in the championship
That is a just a small clip of what to do gooders say. Squad player at best as he is nowhere near Angella , Ekstrand , Hoben , Belekem or even our loveable Lloyd. There must and is better out there.

Remember N Irish International means third grade as in Thompson and the young full back( sorry cannot remember his name) who went on to "fame" at Brentford and Milton Keynes!
