Three Woodford Green with Essex Ladies athletes have been included in Team England's Commonwealth Games squad
Woodford Green with Essex Ladies athletes Daniel Awde, Shana Cox and Tiffany Porter have all been included in Team England's squad for the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
Decathlete Awde, 25, missed the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, India, due to injury but has represented Team GB at both the 2008 and 2012 Olympic Games.
The Hammersmith-born decathlete was forced to withdraw after just one event in London after injuring his knee in the long-jump.
One hundred metre hurdler, Porter, 26, took bronze in the 2013 World Championships in Moscow and earlier this year won bronze in the 60m hurdles in the World Indoor Championships in Sopot.
Born in Michigan, USA, Porter has come under fire after electing to switch allegiance to Great Britain, having previously represented the United States as a youth.
Cox, 29, has been selected for the 400m and is another to have transferred allegiance from the USA.
The Long Island-born runner claimed bronze in the 4x400m relay in Sopot, Poland, earlier this year and took gold in the same event at the 2013 European Indoor Championships in Gothenburg, Sweden.
Peter Stanley, team leader, said: “We are delighted to be taking a team to Glasgow that contains a combination of experienced athletes who have medalled at the highest levels of competition and athletes we believe are ready to make their mark at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.
“Seeing the form already shown this summer by athletes in the squad has been tremendous and I look forward to seeing the athletes seizing the opportunities that the Games will bring.”
The Games begin on July 23.
