Demolition work on East Stand retaining wall begins
Demolition work on the remaining sections of the East Stand structure was expected to start on Monday but that has yet to happen.
The large wall behind the East Stand was scheduled to remain in initial plans but the decision to extend the changing room area meant the retaining wall is being taken down.
Two weeks ago Watford’s chief executive Scott Duxbury said he still hoped the new stand would be open in time for the start of the season in August.
Yesterday (Thursday) the Hornets refused to answer several questions relating to the East Stand, including whether they still expect it to be ready on time.
We asked the club the questions after we were contacted by a reader who claimed asbestos had been found on site and that would lead to further delays. The man also claimed the club had decided to change the company who were conducting the work underneath the new stand.
Like Watford, GL Events, who are building the stand, refused to answer any of our questions. Demolition firm Gaywood were also unavailable to comment.
