Udinese striker Odion Ighalo, who has spent the last five years on loan at Granada, says Watford are interested in signing him this summer

Udinese striker Odion Ighalo says Watford are interested in signing him but admits he is yet to make a decision on his future.

The Watford Observer reported last week that the Hornets were considering a move for the 24-year-old Nigerian.

He has spent the last five years on loan at Spanish club and fellow Pozzo-owned side Granada and has become a fans’ favourite at Los Cármenes.

However, a move to England is a possibility this summer and Ighalo would avoid the UK’s strict work permit requirements as he was issued with an Italian passport two months ago.

''Yes Watford want me but I am still waiting to see what's best for me because there is still time to decide,” Ighalo told SL10.ng.

His agent, Atta Aneke, claims the striker is an attractive prospect for clubs in a number of leagues.

''That's what we are working towards, to have several options,” Aneke told SL10.ng. “There's no concrete country right now but he is a player that is interesting to several leagues.

''We are willing to listen to offers from different leagues, not just Spain or England.''

Ighalo started his career at Prime and then Julius Berger in his native Nigeria before joining Lyn in Norway in 2007 at the age of 18.

His nine goals in 20 games during his first year in Norway persuaded Udinese to sign the striker.

He made one start and four substitute appearances for the Italian club before his affinity with Granada began the following season.

Ighalo netted 17 goals as Granada secured promotion back to the Spanish second division for the first time in 22 years via the play-offs.

He started the 2010/11 campaign on loan at Serie A side Cesena but was unable to secure regular football and after four appearances was loaned back to Granada.

Ighalo only scored five goals in 25 outings for Granada that season but one of those was a fine solo effort in the play-off final which secured promotion to La Liga.

Six goals in 30 outings followed during both of the next two campaigns and he scored four in 18 appearances last season.

I wonder if WFC are the ones keeping there options open. More media today connected with Deeney probably means more likely to go then stay. Rather have a committed Vydra back but that is just wishful thinking, or getting Tozser back, even if on fresh loan. Luv the Horns!

A breathtaking goalscoring record he doesn't have, but we've signed plenty of players in the past with a below average strike-rate who have turned out to be great players for us - Mooney, Furlong, Deeney and others. Footballers are a funny bunch; if they get off to a good start somewhere and are made to feel at home, they can very quickly look a lot better than they did.

Hasn't stopped some people already saying that he's not good enough.
Lest we forget that not long ago we had Joe Garner and Chris Iwelumo up front - be thankful for where we are now!

I think that we have to be fare to Deeney as well as the club if a decent bid comes in this summer, rialistically anything over 6M will open the door, then bring on a bidding war.

The Pozzo model remember is to sell when the value is at its highest and whilst he has been good for us for the past 2 seasons, this may be as good as it gets. What Deeney lacks in ability he makes up for in effort, however this can very easily disapear as we see when he was last linked with a move away and his performance levels quickly dropped.

Regarding Ighalo, you can Utube and watch a video showing his goals and skill, looks very talented alrounder, but agree that somebody needs to get more out of him in terms of goals/games ratio.

It would be good to have 3 or 4 capable 1st choice strikers for this season rather than just the the one or two, therefore strength in depth. Maybe Vydra, Ighalo, Graham and Renegie?

Any suggestions ? Sorry, there isn't a queue of players out there whose burning ambition is to play for Watford in England let alone the rest of the world. Do you think Danny Graham, Marlon, Troy even Luther had a burning ambition to play for us before they joined the club! Of course not. The last striker we had who expressed such a committment was David Connelly - a fan as a kid and we all know what happened - not that I blame him for what he did only what he said (like Brendon) !

I think our strength is to take raw talent or under-performers and transform them into better than average players and occasionally top players - Barnesy, Mo Johnston, Tommy, Marlon, Troy, Kev Phillips etc.

Whether this guy is within that remit, I have no idea, but Vydra, Abdi, Fessi had hardly uprooted trees prior to being with us

Just agent talk as usual and does the player no good at all, as if we did sign him, the the fans already have a negative attitude towards him. Unlike Danny Graham, because of previous efforts, the fans would be willing him to succeed.

Are you expecting him to be committed to a club in a town he almost certainly has never been to, in a country he has never lived in? We can't expect players to be hugely committed before they even join!!! Of course he will be looking for the best opportunity for him, who wouldn't? The hope is that, if he does join, he then puts 100% into it - nothing he has said suggests he wouldn't.

Also, "journeymen"? What are you on about? He has been under contract at Udinese for the last 6 years, since he was 18 years old. He has only left to go where they have sent him!

I agree with the above - 6 million would surely see Deeney leave. However, with the likes of Lambert going for 4 million I dont know if we will get offered anything near that sum. I know that Lambert is 32, but at the end of the day he is a proven prem striker, which Deeney currently is not. Having said that, world cup years can be interesting, with a lot of silly money paid out and this can trickle down the leauges so I guess we have to wait and see...
My worry at the moment is that we are again linked with so many players, when we perhaps only need just 2-3 quality additions/replacemen
ts. I feel that it would be hugely beneficial to trim the squad down significantly and really give players a chance over a number of consecutive games, in order to see their true potential.
