Woodford Green with Essex Ladies men continued their quest for an immediate return to the British Athletics League Premiership by winning the second fixture of the season at Gateshead on Saturday.

The win means Woodford's men sit top of the Division One standings with 16 points - two more than second-placed Glasgow.

Andy Frost got the first win of the day in the hammer before Robert Woolski tasted success in the high jump.

There were 'A' and 'B' wins for Peter Kibabo and Thalassong Tshirelesto in the triple jump, James Bongart and Paul Howard in the javelin and Anthony Oshodi and Youcef Zatat in the shot put.

Incessant rain hampered a number of athletes in the field but V45 decathlete Paul Howard threw a best of 50.74m in the javelin - his best distance in five years.

Tom Phillips picked up second-place finioshes in the 800m and 1500m, whilst Omar Mansour was second in the 'B' 800m.

In the 'B' 800m, Mansour was also second in 1.56.42 and Gavin Lewis was third in the 'B'1500m with a time of 4.04.11.

In the 4x100m, Dewar, Abiodun, Holligan and Ayanful impressed from the inside lane to win by almost a full second with 41.41. The 4x400 squad of Dyer, Scanlan, Abiodun and Baker also came second, crossing the line in 3.20.14.
