Epping amateur golfer Alan Field will compete for the chance to play in the Lombard Trophy final at Gleneagles, three weeks before the Ryder Cup begins at the same venue.

Field, 67, along with PGA professional partner Chris Baron won their club qualifying competition at West Essex Golf Club and now advance to the regional final at Orsett Golf Club on June 24.

The pair will go head-to-head with competitors from 70 other clubs in order to secure one of 16 places at the 36-hole grand final at the famous Scottish course.

If Field and Baron are successful, they will compete at the King's Course between September 3 and 4.

Baron, 48, has been a professional at West Essex for three years. He was the winner of the 2012 Kempinski Open.

Last year's winners were PGA professional Ian Walley and amateur partner Ian Neal from Kedleston Park Golf Club in Derbyshire.
